Bears 2022 Preseason Is Right Around The Corner, But What Should We Expect Saturday Against The Chie
Chicago Bears Preseason is finally here! They start the preseason with a bout against the Kansas City Chiefs this Saturday, but what is the Bears plan of attack as far as playing starters? Who should we keep an eye on throughout the game? Who has something to prove? There’s lots of names to keep an eye on this week, big and small, but a taste of NFL action, an orange and navy on the gridiron, is the biggest treat of it all.
From Justin Fields progression on the opening drives, to seeing how all the rookies handle their first taste of NFL level play, there is a lot of thigs to track in the first exhibition action of 2022. No matter what you’re watching for on Saturday, it is going to feel good to finally have Bears football back. There is a lot of things to be excited and nervous about, but what are the biggest things to look for this weekend?
Can Fields Show He Knows This Revamped Bears Offense?
As we have seen throughout training camp, Justin Fields has had his moments, and has shown he still has weaknesses in his game. This game against the Chiefs will offer him some live action to work with his receivers against a live NFL defense, or at least a shell of one. This is a real opportunity for Fields to show his understanding of the Getsy offense, and if he can prove that he can be that guy in this new system, that is an absolute win for this franchise and its fans all together. He won’t get too many chances, since it is only the first week of the preseason, but if he can go out and look comfortable with the game flow and the offense, it will be a successful week for QB1 in the Windy City.
What Can We Expect From The Wide Receiver Core Besides Mooney?
We all know that this team is very unproven out wide other than Darnell Mooney, so this will be the first look we get at what Luke Getsy thinks as far as who they want to put out on the field when things become for real September 11 against the 49ers.
As far as where things seem to stand right now, it seems as though Equanimous St. Brown Seems to have a pretty good hold on the number 2 role as it stands, with Byron Pringle seeming to have the third spot as it stands now, but that may not last long with third round rookie Velus Jones Jr. putting on quite the camp. While it sucks that N’Keal Harry suffered an injury in camp that may ruin his chance at proving himself for a spot on this roster, it has made things a little clearer as far as who we should expect to see out on the field catching passes from Fields and Siemian this weekend.
What Combos Are We Going To See With The Offensive Line?
There is a lot to talk about with the unit up front, who are the tackles going to be to start the game for the Bears? What we do know is that it will be some kind of combination of Teven Jenkins, Riley Reiff, Larry Borom, and Braxton Jones. Of those four you have three younger guys looking to earn a starting spot for the future, then you have Reiff, who was brought in to be a veteran presence, who seems to be possibly slipping out of his starting role more and more each day with the return of Jenkins, and the excellent camp Jones is putting up for the Bears. My guess is that we see Jones and Reiff, and least to start the game, and that is what it should be based on how it has been in camp and how recent Teven Jenkins’ return was, but this will be a question that will hopefully be answered as camp picks back up again this week leading into gametime for the Bears.
How Will Brisker and Gordon Preform Up Against NFL Talent?
The Bears spent a second-round pick on both safety Jaquan Brisker and cornerback Kyler Gordon this past draft, and they have each had great camps, especially Brisker. These two are a must watch for all Bears fans this weekend and is likely a lot of fans excuse to watch, but how will they perform against NFL level talent? If their training camps and college careers are any indication, these two will be just fine when it comes down to it. Brisker has been all over the field at camp, and once the pads came on, he hit the ground running and had no plans of anyone in his way stopping him, while Kyler Gordon was locking up receivers consistently each and every day before recently missing the last two practices with an injury. Expect Brisker to look elite out there against Kansas City, and let’s all just hope, even if it isn’t this week, that Gordon will be back very soon.
That time of year is upon us once again, and no matter what your reason for tuning in this weekend to any game is, we are blessed to have this sport back again. Will the Bears look good and prove some people wrong in preseason, probably not, yet. All things considered, we are in for a treat just being able to FINALLY have football back on the television screen this week, even if it is just preseason.
