5 Teams To Dethrone The Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl Champions taking down the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers along the way. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl in three out of the last five years and appeared in the Super Bowl four times in that span. What teams have the best chance to prevent a three-peat?
Here Are Five Of The Most Likely Teams To Send Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, And The Rest Of Kansas City Home Packing:
5. Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens are coming off two straight playoff appearances, including an AFC Championship loss to the Chiefs who ended up going on to win the Super Bowl against the 49ers. Lamar Jackson is an elite playmaker at the quarterback position who can explode for a game-changing play at any point in the game.
The Ravens just added Derrick Henry at the running back position who should provide that power in the run game to wear out defenses throughout the course of a game. Baltimore also has a strong defensive unit as well as a well-respected and experienced head coach in John Harbaugh.
Is this enough to knock off the Chiefs as AFC Champs?
4. Detroit Lions
The Lions are one of the more fun, up-and-coming teams in the NFL. After four straight last place finishes in the NFC North and zero playoff appearances since 2016, the Lions finished first in their division with 12 wins in 2023 and made it to the NFC Championship losing to the 49ers by only three points.
Jared Goff has had a resurgence in Detroit, and the young playmakers in Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta make his life that much easier. Detroit’s own Aidan Hutchinson is an animal on the defensive side, and Terrion Arnold was an exciting addition to the secondary via this year’s draft.
Head coach Dan Campbell’s passion and energy might be enough to take his team all the way.
3. Houston Texans
The Texans are another exciting team to watch with firepower all over the field. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is coming off a year in which he was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowler while leading his team to a playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns in the Wild-Card Round.
The Texans already had an electric young receiver duo in Nico Collins and Tank Dell, but they went out and traded for All-Pro receiver Stefon Diggs from the Buffalo Bills to add to the mix. They also added running back Joe Mixon to the offensive core giving Stroud a plethora of options and talent around him to take that next step. Oh, and the defense isn’t too shabby either.
2. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs as well as an NFC Championship loss to the Eagles the previous year. The 49ers have the talent to win it all but can’t seem to finish the job. The 49ers also lost Super Bowl LIV to the Chiefs a few years back.
If you look at the roster, the Niners are loaded with talent on both sides of the ball with Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams and Nick Bosa to name a few. The main thing that this team has to worry about the most is their health. If they can stay healthy, they’re a dominant force that can be too much to handle for many teams.
Will this finally be their year?
1. Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are coming off a disappointing end to the 2023 season. However, Howie Roseman and the front office made some big moves bringing in Saquon Barkley, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Bryce Huff via free agency while also adding a new young duo to the secondary via the draft in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.
The Eagles have what might be the best wide receiver duo in A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith, not to mention Dallas Goedert, one of the game’s best do-it-all tight ends. The offense did take a bit of a hit losing superstar Jason Kelce on the offensive line, but it still is one of the best units in the NFL under Jeff Stoutland. Jalen Hurts might have the best situation out of any quarterback in the NFL this season with the group around him.
The biggest question for the Eagles is the linebacker position and how the young interior defensive lineman will fare without Fletcher Cox who also retired. On paper, the Eagles have one of the best rosters in the NFL and will have the chance to do something special.
Could this team be the biggest threat to Mahomes and the Chiefs?
