#1 San Francisco 49ers (12-5) BYE + HOME FIELD
Despite losing to the Rams in the final week of the season, the 49ers clinched the #1 seed in the NFC, and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They will be off next weekend, and then play the lowest remaining seed in the divisional round.
How about Baker Mayfield, huh? What a bounce-back season for him, and the Buccaneers in general, who were essentially written off before the season. I think this game comes down to whose Pass defense breaks the fewest amount of times. The Eagles have the 28th-ranked pass defense, and the Buccaneers have the 32nd-ranked pass defense. While the Bucs secondary has played better as of late, it’s been the opposite for the Eagles.
This game, in my opinion, will be the closest of the NFC’s wildcard games. The Eagles haven’t looked nearly as threatening as they did last year, and they are a worse road team than they are at home. The Eagles have the experience, and maybe the slight talent edge, but Baker has that dog in em.’ It’s going to be close, but I think Baker shocks the World.
Buccaneers Win, 24-23.
Boy, the NFL knows how to poetically tug at our heartstrings, huh? The first playoff game at Ford Field, and guess who’s the opposing Quarterback? Yep, you guessed it, Matthew Stafford. What an emotional rollercoaster this game is going to be. I’ll be honest with you, the Rams offense has been rolling as of late, and the Lions might have the weakest secondary in the Playoffs. Both teams are strong against the run, so this game might come down to who could effectively run the football.
This game is full of star-studded running backs on both sides, Jahmyr Gibbs, Kyren Williams, and David Montgomery will all have significant roles in the success of their team. For me, I think the Ram's cohesive offensive attack might be a little too much for this young defense, even at home. We are starting the playoffs with two upsets here.
Rams Win, 34-24.
This feels like an old boxing match with two massive heavyweights. Although this playoff matchup doesn’t have the same intensity as it might have had in years past, both teams are absolutely white-hot. Jordan Love has been sensational in the second half of the season. On the Cowboys side, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb have become the best connections in football. I have one point to make, 8-0. The Cowboys are undefeated at home this season, and look otherworldly at Jerry World. I think the Packers could have gone further against any other opponent in the playoffs.
Cowboys win, 38-21.
