2022 Packers 53-Man Roster Projections: Offense

Do the Packers keep seven or eight wide receivers? How many offensive linemen do they go with? Which players make the cut on offense?

As the preseason closes and September rolls on in, the excitement for football season is in the air. But before they pad up and take on the Minnesota Vikings on September 11th, the Green Bay Packers have to shorten what was a 90-man roster to just 53 players. Coach LaFleur and GM Brian Gutekunst have a hard job ahead and it will be interesting to see who makes the cut on the team.

2022 Packers Playmakers: Our Roster Predictions

While the initial 53-man roster hasn’t been released yet, that will be made official after the August 30th, 4 pm deadline. Here are our 53-man offensive roster predictions for the Green Bay Packers 2022 season. To note, the initial 53-man roster isn’t always the exact roster that will be playing Week one. Players will be sent to the practice squad, signed, or released before then as well.

Quarterbacks (2): Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love: This one is self-explanatory. The back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers leads the way for the Green and Gold while former first-round pick Jordan Love will back him up after an improving preseason. Although Danny Etling played well during the preseason, it is likely he is stashed on the practice squad.

Running backs (3): Aaron Jones, AJ Dillon, and Tyler Goodson. Jones and Dillon will be the 1-2 tandem once again as Matt LaFleur has big plans for them this season. Undrafted free agent running back Goodson has absolutely shined this preseason and should maintain the RB3 job until Kylin Hill returns from injury.

Wide receivers (7): Allen Lazard, Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Randall Cobb, and Samori Toure. This was tough to make. Seventh-round pick Samori Toure has shown flashes in the preseason but Juwann Winfree has been praised by Aaron Rodgers. Winfree gets the raw end of the stick and heads to the practice squad. Lazard looks to be the WR1 to start the season.

Tight ends (4): Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan, Josiah Deguara, and Tyler Davis. Tonyan looks to pick up after his 2020 breakout season after an injury-plagued 2021 season. Lewis is still a solid player in the final years of his career while Deguara hasn’t lived up to his draft position as this could be his final season with the Packers. Davis has struggled a lot during the preseason but he makes the team because the coaching staff loves him.

2022 Packers Offensive Line Predictions: Ten Players Make The Cut

Tackles: David Bakhtiari, Yosh Nijman, Caleb Jones, and Rasheed Walker. Jones has played well this preseason and has a high PFF grade while Walker has shown good flashes.

Guards: Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan, Jon Runyan, and Royce Newman. Jenkins can hopefully return to the field soon and honestly, he can play at any position on the line. Royce Newman has been suggested as a trade candidate but he should make the roster.

Center: Josh Myers and Zach Tom. Jake Hanson is the odd man out here as the 2021 second-round pick Myers will start. Zach Tom has the flexibility to play all around the line after a great preseason.

2022 Packers Special Teams Predictions

Special Teams: Kicker (1): Mason Crosby, Punter (1) – Pat O’Donnell, Long Snapper (1) – Jack Coco. Not really any surprises here.

These are the official predictions from us here at Cheesehead Checkdown. It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds and maybe the Packers will sign a gem or two that will fall to waivers shortly after 4:00 pm. We will also find out who will be placed on the PUP list. A player to watch for is kicker Mason Crosby. If he makes the PUP list, then kicker Ramiz Ahmed will most likely get the starting job after a solid preseason.
