2022 College Football Heisman Best Bets & Long Shots
Before the season starts we will take a look at some NCAA Futures bets that we believe can make you some money at the end of the season! We are going to look at some favorites and some potential long shots that could make you some money!
Heisman Favorites “The Easy Picks”
#1. CJ Stroud (+220) Ohio State
CJ Stroud is in one of the best situations in the country. He has three returning potential All Americans blocking for him in Paris Johnson Jr., Dawand Jones, and Luke Wypler. Not only is CJ Stroud manning what NCAA.com ranks as the number one offense in 2021, he got back star WR (and Heisman hopeful) Jaxson Smith-Njigba and starting RB TreVeyon Henderson. Ohio St has a very good chance at winning the Big 10 and if they can do that, I think CJ Stroud will have a great chance to win the Heisman.
#2 Bryce Young (+380) Alabama
Bryce Young is in a similar spot to CJ Stroud. In 2021, Alabama finished as the 7th ranked offense in all of college football. They lost a few guys at key positions, but the benefit of Alabama is they get the best recruits and the best transfers! They replace 5 star recruits with 5 star recruits. Alabama is going to be on a war path after losing to Georgia in the National Championship game. Bryce Young also won the Heisman last year. He knows what it takes to win. I think getting him now at +380 is a steal. Young is also competing against Stroud to show the NFL he is deserving of being the #1 pick in this upcoming draft. Alabama doesn’t need a chip on their shoulder to play better, now they have a few.
#3 Caleb Williams (+700) USC
Caleb Williams is an interesting pick at the 3rd best odds to win the Heisman for a few reasons. The main one being he and his head coach both moved on from Oklahoma to USC. USC invested a lot of money into new Head Coach Lincoln Riley. Riley is famous for always having a high-powered offense and scoring a lot of points. Who does that help? Caleb Williams. USC is hoping to get back to their Reggie Bush National Championship days. I think the schedule this year is going to help USC show people they are coming back to what they once were. They have the 35th ranked strength of schedule per ESPN.com. I think USC is going to come out and make a statement that they are back and they are here to compete. With Caleb Williams at the helm, I think that puts him in a very good spot to be in Heisman contention.
Heisman Long Shots To Keep On Your Radar
#1 Dillon Gabriel (+3000) Oklahoma
Dillon is in an interesting spot. After only playing three games last year for UCF due to a broken collar bone, he now finds himself on a new team in the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma also has a new head coach in long time Clemson Defensive Coordinator Brent Venables. Dillon’s first two full seasons at UCF put him into the national spotlight by finishing the 8th best offense in 2020 and 5th in 2019. Dillon now finds himself in a new home with more talent than he ever has in an offense that should cater to his high accuracy throws. Oklahoma did, however, lose a lot of starters on both sides of the ball. Dillon is in a decent spot and could put up some big numbers this year, but can they win enough games to keep him in title contention?
#2 Quinn Ewers (+3500) Texas
The hype around this kid has been insane. One of six players to ever get a full 1.000 rating from 247sports.com. He is transferring from Ohio St back to his home state of Texas to lead the Longhorns to hopefully their first College Football Playoff appearance. Ewers doesn’t have any stats to support the fact that he is going to be in Heisman contention, but the storyline is picture perfect. Going to a storied university like the Longhorns, who haven’t been “back” in more than a decade, are now positioned with their savior Quarterback to hopefully make it to the big dance. If Ewers can lead the Longhorns to the promised land, leading one of the most polarizing teams in all of college football, he will be a strong candidate to win the 2022 Heisman.
#3 Bo Nix (+7000) Oregon
Bo Nix has had an interesting career. Starting out his college career at Auburn and providing them with some much needed firepower. He came in as the #2 QB recruit in 2019, just behind Spencer Rattler. Auburn had gone through a few changes and Bo felt that he needed a change of scenery. With that, he transferred to one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Pac 12… the University of Oregon. The Ducks come into the season with a new head coach in Danny Lanning (previously at Georgia). Oregon has historically been a fun and exciting team to watch on offense with their air raid, but in recent years they haven’t been able to find stability at the QB position. Oregon comes into the season ranked 11th in the country. Their first test to open the season is against #3 Georgia. I think if Oregon can shock the world and beat Georgia week 1, that will set them up for what could be a special season. Their schedule isn’t incredibly hard and if they can beat Georgia they have a real chance at going undefeated and making the playoffs. If Bo can do that, he will have a real shot at winning the Heisman.
#4 JT Daniels (+8000) West Virginia
JT Daniels might be the unluckiest 5 Star QB in college football history. After committing to USC and playing as a true freshman in 2018, he was progressing as any young QB in a high-powered offense would. In 2019, in the 1st game of the year, he tore his ACL and was replaced by Kedon Slovis. After Slovis played well, Daniels appeared to have lost his starting job and put his name into the transfer portal. JT ended up choosing to go to Georgia to play with Kerby Smart and another top program in the country. While at Georgia, Daniels was not the starting QB right away. He ended up winning the starting job with 4 weeks left in the 2020 season. He finished with a 4-0 record. Coming into the 2021 season, JT had earned the starting job once again, giving Georgia a real shot at a national title bid. Following the week 1 win, JT suffered an oblique injury which bothered him for the remainder of the season and then resulted in him losing his job to Stetson Bennett. Stetson would then lead Georgia to a National Championship victory over Alabama. Stetson, once again, would be replaced due to an injury. Stetson now finds himself at West Virginia, a throw first ask questions later program who isn’t afraid of an offensive shoot out. I think, with JT finally healthy and placed in an offense, that he will be able to show off all his talent would be a great guy to follow during the year to see if his numbers get him into the Heisman conversation at very high odds.
