Currently, the New England Patriots are preparing for their week five game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots do have a problem going into the game on Sunday: six players cannot play due to injury. Now New England is looking at a formidable opponent in the Las Vegas team this weekend.
Patriots Injury Updates: The Players
Included in the list of injured players who can’t compete this weekend are four cornerbacks. The cornerbacks in question are Christian Gonzalez, Carlton Davis, Channing Canada, and Karon Prunty. Canada and Prunty are both out with hamstring injuries, Davis has a neck injury, and Gonzalez is out with a shoulder injury. Fullback Reggie Gillian is out with an ankle/knee injury, and wide receiver Mack Hollins is out due to his calf for the weekend.
This isn’t even the first time New England has seen so many injuries this season, as the match against the Seahawks left them down five players. With the cornerbacks out, this will affect the Patriots’ defense. According to head coach Mike Vrabel, the Raiders are very opportunistic when it comes to their defense. Quarterback Drake Maye shared a similar sentiment about Las Vegas’ defensive line, saying that they do a good job disrupting the opposing team.

Regarding the Raiders, “They’re disruptive and do a lot defensively,” Vrabel said during a press conference. “Which says a lot to not only their scheme and the coaches, but the players for being able to handle as much as they do. The multiplicity on first and second down, the looks that they give you on third down – it’s a great challenge. The offense really stays committed to what they want to do, which is run the football and find their playmakers.”
Patriots Injury Updates: Raiders Advantages Earning Patriots Respect
Las Vegas has its own run of injuries heading into the game on October 11. Wide receiver Jalen Nailor is out with a concussion and won’t be able to play. Wide receiver Dont’e Thornton is out with a hamstring injury, and Trey Zuhn is out with knee injuries. This could hurt the Raiders’ chances against New England, giving the Patriots’ 2-2 record an extra boost for the 2026 season.

This won’t change New England’s outlook on Las Vegas, though, as stated above, both Maye and Vrabel see the strong defense in past games and their current 3-1 record. Vrabel even called out two players for being good at what they do. Raiders receiver Brock Bowers was pointed to for his speed and catching ability. Michael Mayer was highlighted for his ability to block and pass with precision. Vrabel continued his admiration for Las Vegas, noting the Raiders’ ability to hone in on where the ball is at any given moment, along with their skill in stretching any gains they make.
Vrabel spoke again on Las Vegas, “They turn what would be a five-yard gain into a 15-yard gain because of his ability to see that quickly. So, it’s a great challenge, it’s a new opponent, and somebody that we have to really invest a lot of time in.” Viewing footage from previous games this season, Vrabel sees the Raiders as a great challenge. Between Vrabel and Maye’s comments, there seems to be only respect for how Las Vegas plays and the character of the players.

End Of My New England Patriots Injury Updates Rant
Despite the discouraging Patriots injury updates, Maye is confident in his team after the win against the Buffalo Bills. New England also sees a lot of good qualities in the Raiders that will make the match a challenge. Both teams have seen injuries since last Sunday’s game that could even out on the playing field. Nonetheless, they will be shipping off this weekend to Gillette Stadium for the Sunday game at 1 pm.
