The 2025 NHL Playoffs have delivered another exhilarating game, undetermined until the final seconds. The Vegas Golden Knights travelled to Edmonton with a bad taste in their mouths Saturday night. After losing the first two games to the Oilers at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, they looked to return the favor to Edmonton’s home fans. Even for the most cynical fan who expected the worst, the ending of this game was an unexpected gutshot.

Late Game Excitement In NHL Playoffs

The Golden Knights took care of business in Game Three after a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss at home. This game was as entertaining as the last, an even and entertaining bout. With 0.5 seconds remaining, fans were excited to watch more overtime in the playoffs.

Everything changed for Edmonton fans with 0.4 seconds remaining. The Golden Knights were on one last attack in regulation, forward Reilly Smith in possession, but at a sharp angle. Smith tossed the puck towards the net from the goal line behind Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner. It traveled between Skinner and the post, heading away from the net. Coming in hot on the back check, Oiler forward Leon Draisaitl knocked the puck in for an own goal. In the slow-motion replay, it was clear the puck wouldn’t have gone in otherwise.

The excitement of the crazy finish had an awkward moment before official celebrations. It was ruled “no goal” live on the ice, and the clock struck 00:00 for overtime. It took a video review to award the goal with 0.4 seconds remaining. The booming crowd went silent as they picked their jaws up off the floor.

End Of My NHL Playoffs Rant

Smith was the last Golden Knight to touch the puck, giving his team the goal and keeping them competitive in the series. They look to even things up with another road win on Monday night from Rogers Place. Can Skinner and the Oilers bounce back from such a disappointing finish?
