The NFL Combine is here and it is an exciting time for young prospects. However, at around this time, the NFLPA releases their grades. These were given by the players themselves and there is so much I learned by reading all of them. The one I am most interested in is the New York Jets as they are my number 1 team. If there was one word to describe last season it was dysfunctional, so this got my attention. So, in the New York Jets grades, fans got to get a glimpse of the opinions of the players and their three key takeaways.
3. Well At Least The Food Improved

Let’s start with a positive one as there is plenty of negativity that the Jets have had this year. For many years a common complaint was both the food program and dietitian. While the food program slightly got better thanks to the budget increase, it’s clear that their dietitian was more accessible. Which is a positive and the nutritionist/dietitian portion was the highest grade for the Jets with a B+.
2. The Players Felt Jeff Ulbrich Did A Good Job

When talking about coaching in the NFL it matters. When the Jets fired Robert Saleh midseason, it was the right decision. He was way over his head and it should have been done after the season Rodgers ruptured his achilles. The man who took over for Saleh was defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. I had hoped he would do well, but Ulbrich was not good as the interim coach.
Reading the NFLPA, I will give Ulbrich this, he has a great relationship with the players. He was very receptive to feedback in the locker room and was very efficient with the players during his time as the head coach. The Jets players don’t point the blame at him for the season. There is one other man who is getting the finger pointed for the bust of a season.
1. The Owner Is 100% The Problem

When talking about the owner, there is nothing positive to be said. Woody Johnson is the worst owner in the NFL and I have called this out many times. The dude cared more about securing another government job than owning the Jets. By the way, he failed in that as he wasn’t chosen as the Ambassador to Great Britain during President Trump’s second term as president. Well, it’s not just the fanbase that isn’t a fan of Woody, even the players don’t like him.
From the NFLPA the players were not a fan of Johnson as he was not willing to invest in the facilities and felt that Woody wasn’t as committed to building a competitive team. Here is the most unsurprising statement in this report,…
The players feel that Johnson does not contribute to a positive team culture
Nobody should be surprised by this at all. Especially with how Woody meddled in this franchise, what did he expect?
After seasons like last year, I have no hope for this team. Not until this owner is gone. I would request for him to sell the team, but we all know he will never do that. If he didn’t sell after his scandals as the ambassador to Great Britain, I don’t know what would make him sell. Woody, my advice to you is to take a page out of San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York. Stay away from football and day-to-day operations. Stop with the meddling and let the football people do their jobs because you don’t know how to run a team.
End Of My New York Jets Rant

So, those are my takeaways from the New York Jets NFLPA grades. What are your thoughts on the grades? Do you think that it was fair or bias? Could Woody Johnson learn from these grades or still be continue to be the worst owner in the NFL today? Let me know in the comment section and don’t forget to give the article a like as well. Hopefully this is a wakeup call for the New York Jets organization and the grades improve next year.
