The Cleveland Browns continue to find themselves in a sticky situation. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has been injured most of the time, and played horrendously when he wasn’t.
NFL free agency has been frantic this year, but the team has made nothing but a ripple in the pool. The short-term answer is staring them straight in the face, and they need to jump on it before another team does.
NFL Quarterback Situation
With quarterback Russell Wilson officially headed to the New York Giants, the number of viable quarterbacks is even smaller. The Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers are other teams prominently active in the market. While the Titans may decide to trade up, they currently have the number one pick, and the Steelers seem hyper-focused on Aaron Rodgers.

If the Titans trade up, that likely cements them in the market for a free agent quarterback. Could Tennessee be eyeing up this Super Bowl-winning veteran? With Aaron Rodgers the only other viable free agent quarterback, the team should jump on this familiar option before it’s too late.
Cleveland Browns Quarterback Situation
Watson is not expected to start the season, leaving Cleveland needing an experienced veteran journeyman. Having just started for the Browns in a 2023-24 playoff game, Joe Flacco is easily the best available choice for the team. If they lose out on Flacco, they will pick from the Trey Lance’s or Carson Wentz’s of the world.

While he hasn’t been lighting up the stat sheet, he has carried some bad teams. Over the past two seasons, Flacco averaged 1,688.5 yards per season while playing for the Colts and Browns. The Jets wasted three years of his career before that, which was the start of the declining stats.
End Of My NFL Quarterbacks Rant
The answer seems obvious, as you will not see Rodgers playing for such a losing organization. This is not to say Flacco makes them a Super Bowl threat, but perhaps entertaining their fans on a Wild Card run. This is the best decision for the organization, regardless of the outcome.
