Week Fourteen of the 2024 NFL season is here. As always, I will start by discussing the rules for a survivor pool. It is a weekly contest where people select one team per week, straight up, to win their game.
If a chosen team wins, it advances to the next week, but remember that the selected team can’t be used for the rest of the season. If a team they chose for that week loses, it is eliminated from the pool.
Now that the rules are set, it is time for me to give my top three options: a risky pick, a trap pick, and a survivor pick that I would have made if I were still alive in Survivor. It would have been nice for Cincinnati to prepare for their first regular-season game.
1. Philadelphia Eagles (vs Carolina Panthers)
The obvious no-brainer pick for Week 14. Yes, Carolina played the Chiefs close, but they pulled a Mike Tomlin. They are playing down to massively inferior competition, but the Eagles won’t play that card here, as they try to keep ensuring they lock up the NFC East Division. If you saved Philadelphia, well it’s the free spot on the Bingo card, use them.
2. New Orleans Saints (at New York Giants)
Normally I’d put a team like the Saints on the Risky pick portion of this article, but the Giants are so terrible that there going in the top options. Who even knows who will start with the Giants, honestly, it doesn’t matter as their current options at QB are awful. The Giants just lost their best defensive player, Dexter Lawrence, for the season due to an elbow injury. While the Saints are a bad team, they should take care of business against the Giants and try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
3. Miami Dolphins (vs New York Jets)
Taking Divisional games in Survivor isn’t the way to go, however, it’s late in the NFL season, and there probably are not many options. Also, the Dolphins are a good choice in general this week, as they face a dysfunctional franchise in the New York Jets. To make things worse for the Jets, a lot of notable names are on the injury list, including Alijah Vera-Tucker (what else is new?), Ahmad “Sauce” Gadner, Breece Hall, etc. Miami needs to win every single game to even have a chance to make the playoffs, and they should take care of business against the New York Jets.
Risky Pick – Chicago Bears at San Francisco 49ers
The Chicago Bears are a complete disappointment this season. The season has been such a mess, that the Bears decided to fire Matt Eberflus as the head coach mid-season. Which is a rarity within that organization, but it has to be done with how incompetent he was as a head coach.
With him gone, I like Chicago a lot more. To make things better, they face the 49ers team that has been bitten by the injury bug much this season. With all the injuries the 49ers have, the team may not even make the 2024/25 playoffs as a result. The Bears are a very risky pick with how inconsistent the team is, but with a lack of options, if you’re desperate, the Bears might be the way to go to survive and advance.
2024 Risky Survivor Pick History (8-5) – Week 1: Minnesota Vikings, Week 2: Washington Commanders, Week 3: San Francisco 49ers, Week 4: Tennessee Titans, Week 5: New England Patriots, Week 6: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Week 7: Jacksonville Jaguars, Week 8: Arizona Cardinals, Week 9: New Orleans Saints, Week 10: New York Giants, Week 11: Green Bay Packers, Week 12: Houston Texans, Week 13: Dallas Cowboys
Trap Pick – Cincinati Bengals at Dallas Cowboys
The Cincinnati Bengals are a very disappointing team, as they were once considered favorites to win the AFC North. Now they might not even make the playoffs this season, and it sucks, because Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins, have been great this year. It’s too bad that the rest of the team sucks, including that defense. My goodness, there was a disaster, and that secondary has not been the same since Jesse Bates departed years ago.
This week the Bengals face the Cowboys, who are another terrible team, but they’ve been better since Micah Parsons returned to the field. Dallas is coming off a mini-bye, as they played on Thanksgiving. Dallas should be prepared for this matchup, so expect a strong performance from them. Heck, Cincinnati has been a trap team all season, they took me out of Survivor in week 1. Avoid the Bengals this week, because there are better options to use. If you’re desperate, I’d rather take Tennessee this week instead of anyone in this game.
2024 Trap Survivor Pick History (4-9) – Week 1: Buffalo Bills, Week 2: Indianapolis Colts, Week 3: Seattle Seahawks, Week 4: Philadelphia Eagles, Week 5: Chicago Bears, Week 6: Buffalo Bills, Week 7: Cincinnati Bengals, Week 8: New York Jets, Week 9: Baltimore Ravens, Week 10: Philadelphia Eagles, Week 11: New York Jets, Week 12: Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Week 13: Houston Texans
Who I Would Have Taken in Survivor – Miami Dolphins
I can’t use the Philadelphia Eagles as they were my pick in Week 6. I can’t use the New Orleans Saints either as they were my pick in Week 9. Guess what, I can’t use the Chicago Bears either as they were my pick in Week 10. I have no choice here, the Miami Dolphins would have been my survivor pick for this week. Which is a good time to use them with how dysfunctional the Jets franchise is and Miami looking competent the past 3 weeks.
