After a singular week of football, NFL fans are either ecstatic or distraught. While week one is consistently full of surprises, these are the handful of storylines football fans are sure to keep their eye on heading into week two.

The Detroit Lions

Expectations are high in Detroit after winning 27 games in the last two seasons. Coming off a 15-2 campaign in 2024, the season-opening loss to the rival Green Bay Packers has Motor City on edge. In one of the biggest games of week one, the defending NFC North champions got blatantly beaten. What was one of the most exciting teams to watch last season fell completely flat in the season opener.

The supposedly revamped defense did next to nothing, and the offense looked far less explosive than in years past. If week one showed us anything worth holding on to, it’s that the Packers are for real, or the Detroit Lions took a big step back this offseason.

Week one games either add fuel to the narrative fire or extinguish it. If the Lions look the same in week two as they did in the last, panic is warranted for last year’s NFC giant.

New York Giants QB Room

Although the expectations were relatively low for the New York Giants, the offense looked absolutely horrible under the command of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. The offseason addition did next to nothing in his New York debut. In his 37 passing attempts, he could only manage to collect 168 passing yards. His poor performance is sparking further debate in the Big Apple as to who is his best fit to serve as the starting quarterback.

The room also consists of Jameis Winston and first-round rookie Jaxson Dart. While both are serviceable options, fans and analysts assume the rookie will get the first shot if a positional change is to be made. With head coach Brian Daboll’s job on the line, don’t be surprised if the Giants end up starting rookie Jaxson Dart sooner than expected.

Miami Dolphins

Oh, was week one bad for Miami Dolphins fans. Nothing went right for Miami in week one. Quarterback Tua Tungaviloa only managed to muster 114 passing yards, resulting in a 3.8 QBR. Currently standing as the sixth-highest paid QB in the league, the performance is nothing short of unacceptable. While his performance was abysmal, he’s not the only one responsible for the loss.

After the embarrassing week one, it was reported that there was a players’ only meeting. Simply marking a point in time for concern. If the Dolphins struggle as greatly against the New England Patriots as they did last week, dark days may be ahead.

End Of My NFL Storyline Rant

Many of these storylines were born in the offseason, with week one only furthering certain narratives. If week two isn’t telling in a positive direction for any of these situations, look for chaos to break free and take hold of the mainstream media.
