The 2025 NFL Draft has concluded, and the young group of talent is eager to make an impression on their new teams. There has been no discussion about how this affects current players. The Cleveland Browns selected two running backs this year, raising questions about their all-time great running back, Nick Chubb. What lies ahead for the dangerous but injury-prone veteran?

1) Unlikely Return To Cleveland

The Cleveland Browns employed an excellent strategy to acquire a talented group of rookies in the 2025 NFL Draft. The team selected two running backs, Quinshon Judkins from Ohio State and Dylan Sampson from Tennessee. The Browns are making decisions within the limitations of their own mistakes.

The organization is in no position to spend money. Whether it’s the terrible contracts or the fact they won’t be relevant for years, Cleveland will look for cheaper rookies that they think will flourish on their team. It seems Chubb will test the waters as an unrestricted free agent.

Per Athlon Sports, general manager Andrew Berry said, “Not necessarily, but the complexion of our running backs room has changed,” when asked about the situation after the draft. Chubb also carries a high risk of injury. The veteran has missed time due to a broken foot, MCL and ACL surgery, and a dislocated knee, amongst many others.

2) Chicago Bears

The early favorite online for Chubb’s services is the Chicago Bears. They only have one dangerous running back on the team, D’Andre Swift, and they need someone explosive to pair with him. With the injury risks of the free agent, playing RB2 behind Swift would be a lethal combination.

3) Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are the next team up. Choosing not to resign Najee Harris this offseason, the team currently has Jaylen Warren as RB1. Pittsburgh used Harris and Warren as a one-two punch last season, and playing a similar role would benefit the injury-prone Chubb.

4) Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have an undeniable RB1 in De’Von Achane, but the dropoff from there is steep. They let running back Raheem Mostert walk in free agency this offseason. Mostert struggled with injuries and performance last season, and the Dolphins need to be wary of the cap.

The Dolphins have Jaylen Wright currently as RB2. After the team drafted him in 2024, his career has been lacklustre thus far. If the price is right for Chubb, the Dolphins could use some depth at the position.

5) Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have a reliable RB1 in James Cook, but the talent drops from there to names like Ty Johnson and Ray Davis. Chubb has plenty to offer their young backs on and off the field, and they could use him sparingly to keep him healthy. The team could be more dangerous next season with their current star and a healthy Chubb.

End Of My NFL Rumors Rant

This is unfortunately common for running backs, as taking more hits than most takes its toll. Nick Chubb has paid his dues in Cleveland and deserves a legitimate playoff run. Where will the balance of pay for elite talent versus injury risk land?
