Being a head coach in the NFL is a tough job. They are constantly facing scrutiny, but they are paid handsomely enough to deserve the heat. Coaches like Andy Reid, Mike Tomlin, and John Harbaugh appear to be bulletproof, but these coaches are on the hot seat in 2025.

5. Sean McDermott

Sean McDermott is a great head coach, but things could be coming to a head in Buffalo. If the Buffalo Bills can’t break through and at least appear in a Super Bowl, the front office could look to shake things up. Josh Allen won’t be going anywhere, but McDermott could be the odd man out. He’s a good coach, but his defense never shows up when Allen needs it most. If the Bills want to shake things up, showing McDermott the door feels like the only move left.

4. Brian Daboll

Brian Daboll has been the New York Giants’ head coach for three seasons, and nothing good has happened since he led them to a 9-7-1 record and a playoff appearance in 2022. Since then, they finished 6-11 in 2023 and 3-14 last season. Daboll is finally free of the shackles of Daniel Jones, but if he doesn’t lead the Giants to a big year, he could be fired next season. Jaxson Dart has the opportunity to buy Daboll another year, but the seat is flaming hot.

3. Jonathan Gannon

Jonathan Gannon has spent two seasons as the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach, and it hasn’t paid off yet. Arizona won four games in 2023 and eight games last season. If there isn’t a major improvement in the desert this season, the Cardinals should cut their losses and move on from Gannon. The NFC West will be up for grabs in 2025, and Arizona will have to make a run at the crown for Gannon to keep his job.

2. Shane Steichen

The Shane Steichen experiment isn’t working out in Indianapolis. Anthony Richardson hasn’t developed at all since arriving, and he lost a quarterback battle to Daniel Jones this year. The 2025 season is already dead for the Indianapolis Colts. If they plan to draft a new quarterback next year, it would be smart to hit the reset button and get a new head coach for him to grow under. The Colts have floated around .500 with Steichen, but it could be time to move on.

1. Mike McDaniel

Mike McDaniel has the hottest seat of any NFL coach this season. The Miami Dolphins appear to be a mess. The AFC East will provide more competition this year than any year that McDaniel has been the head coach. A bad season will send him packing. The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots are expected to be the best teams in the division. The honeymoon phase with McDaniel has worn off. He had a great season in 2023, leading Miami to 11 wins, but everything else has been underwhelming. It wouldn’t be shocking to see a coaching change at the end of the 2025 season.

End Of My NFL Rant

If these coaches don’t outkick their coverage in 2025, it could be over for them at their current position. All of them will find new jobs, but things aren’t going well for them at the moment. Some guys are better suited to be coordinators. Sometimes, coaches get stale. It’s easy to make a head coach the scapegoat, but they are responsible for the on-field product. If that isn’t meeting the standard, they have to face the heat.
