Well, the NFL’s top candidate for head coach has officially signed with the Chicago Bears. A huge win for the Bears but that still leaves six teams without a head coach. There are plenty of options still available

Dallas Cowboys Still Searching For Head Coach After Deion Sanders Rumors Fall Flat

Colorado coach Deion Sanders was rumored to be a candidate for head coach of the Cowboys earlier last week. That seems to have gone by the wayside, however. Sanders will likely be staying in Colorado and doesn’t seem interested in an NFL job. The Cowboys are looking at Head Coach Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame, as well as Lincoln Riley from USC. Dallas has already interviewed former Jets head coach Robert Saleh, and Eagles OC Kellen Moore.

This certainly is a unique situation in Dallas, with Jerry Jones still running the show as the owner. The Cowboys job seems to still be up in the air with no frontrunner as of yet.

Jacksonville Loses Out On Ben Johnson Sweepstakes, Must Pivot Quickly

The Jaguars were hoping for Ben Johnson to be their next head coach. That isn’t the case as he signed with the Bears, but it still leaves a lot of good options if they act fast. One of those options is Robert Saleh who has been a Jags assistant in the past. Another person of interest for the Jaguars is Bucs offensive Coordinator, Liam Coen.

The Buccaneers had a high-powered offense this year with Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans leading it. Coen seems like the key to unlocking Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville. Also on the table is Offensive Coordinator of the Bills, Joe Brady. Jacksonville will have to wait till after the AFC Championship game to interview him, however.

Las Vegas Still Looking For Head Coach As QB Situation Limits Options

There are other problems besides the head coach in Las Vegas right now. Their QB situation is a mess with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew seeming more like backups than starters. That is one big reason Ben Johnson wasn’t gonna sign with the Raiders. Las Vegas has interviewed various candidates for their head coaching positions, including former Seattle head coach Pete Carroll, Lions DC Aaron Glenn, and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo. Pete Carroll seems to be the favorite for the position as he has a track record of success. The Raiders still have much to figure out even when they get a head coach.

Saints Are Narrowing Down Their Head Coaching Search To Three Candidates

The New Orleans Saints are inching closer to signing their next head coach. They are moving into the second interview phase with Giants OC Mike Kafka, pictured below, and Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver. Detroit Lions DC Aaron Glenn has also been mentioned to be getting a second interview. As for Mike Kafka, he was a former NFL quarterback and served as the quarterbacks coach for Patrick Mahomes during his first two years as a starter.

Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver joined Miami in 2024 but before that was on Baltimore’s staff and the Texans. Both candidates are intriguing in their own right, certainly, a tough decision for the Saints to make.

New York Jets Have Major Decisions To Make Before Next Season

The Jets were underwhelming this year to put it lightly. They had an aging future hall-of-fame QB in Aaron Rodgers, with hopes of making it deep in the playoffs. That went up in flames early on and they finished 5-12. With Rodgers likely on his way out, either via retirement or simply to another team, a head coach certainly needs to bring stability. One candidate that comes to mind is Lions DC Aaron Glenn.

He used to be a cornerback for the Jets and was an All-Pro at that. There would undoubtedly be a connection there and he would have the fans behind him as well. This should be where Glenn coaches next but only time will tell.

End Of NFL Rant

Even with Ben Johnson off the table, there are still big names available. All eyes will be on those five openings as the week progresses.
