Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady has offered support to Keon Coleman.
Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Bills, spoke to the media following the departure of Bills head coach Sean McDermott. Irrelevant to the discussion, Pegula spoke about Coleman as a draft pick. This had since sparked controversy within the media and fan base.
Coleman’s Journey With The Bills
Coleman, wide receiver, had been on the Bills’ radar due to his promising college stats for Michigan and Florida State. This led to Coleman becoming the Bills’ 33rd overall pick in the 2024 draft. From there, he spent two seasons with the team and contributed to deep receptions.
Coleman had a slow start building his stats. However, one can argue that it takes time for an athlete to adjust to playing in the NFL. Having been one year younger than Josh Allen, who was drafted at 21 years old, it’s a possibility that Coleman’s growth can progress over time.
The Press Conference
It is no secret that the Buffalo has been on a journey toward winning a Super Bowl. They even had a taste of it on several occasions in the early 1990s. In addition, their grit and determination only heightened during their 17-year-long playoff drought. Would the Bills want to provide room for Coleman to grow?
It wasn’t until the press conference that addressed the departure of Bills head coach Sean McDermott that the truth came out. Pegula and Beane had spoken to the media about their observations on the current team and its future. When the topic of the Bills’ wide receivers came up, Pegula quickly answered the question addressed toward Beane. The question was about the wide receivers, not directly about Coleman.
Pegula brought Coleman into the discussion and addressed that he wasn’t originally the organization’s main choice as a draft pick. Pegula even added that it was more of an insight that came from the coaching staff.

What Does This Mean For Coleman?
Pegula’s remark turned some heads, not only by fans but also by the media. His remarks were considered inappropriate, especially under the circumstances of the press conference.
Following the event, Coleman did not make a public statement in response to the owner’s remarks. However, questions were raised about whether Coleman would stay with the team or depart. Additional questions floated around about which team would pick him up if he did leave.
Silver Lining With A New Coach
The Bills announced their new head coach, Joe Brady, in late January. Brady was the team’s offensive coordinator in 2024-25. There have since been countless discussions on what Brady will do and bring to the team.
Curiosity stirred about whether the new head coach would acknowledge the Coleman discussion from the press conference. People got their answers when Brady discussed with NFL on ESPN regarding the wide receiver.
“I told Keon, ‘The best thing that’s ever going to happen to Keon Coleman is that I got named head football coach’,” Brady said.
It is clear that Brady believes in Coleman and that he has potential. Also, the tone and enthusiasm in the new head coach’s voice might be what Coleman needs after what happened with the press conference.
End Of My Bills Rant
Brady’s remarks about Coleman are what Bills fans and media needed to hear to move on from what happened. It will be interesting to see how the Bills, especially Coleman, will adjust to the shift to a new coach in the next 2026-27 season.
