The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the teams without a starting quarterback, but one could say they haven’t had one since Big Ben. Despite the lack of talent at the position, the team has found a way to win. The current number two has already played a playoff game for them, and they have not gone under 8.5 wins since the 2003 season.
Cleveland is a mess all over the field, and is another team without a QB1 to start the season. The Browns are projected to wait for next year’s crop of quarterbacks, so they would be lucky to snag Joe Flacco. With a middle-of-the-pack strength of schedule and a bottom-of-the-pack team, why expect the team to improve on the three wins from last season, considering they have been quiet in free agency?
Baltimore had the second-worst pass defense in the NFL last year, and they still managed 12 wins. With any improvements on the defensive side, the team is lethal on offense. Even in those five losses, there are many to blame on the defense.
The Bengals’ defense was brutal last season and will likely be worse. After losing four games in which the team scored 30 points or more, they gave their receivers a raise and may part ways with last year’s sack leader. It’s hard to imagine quarterback Joe Burrow repeating the MVP caliber pace of last year, and they may field a worse defense.
Once a competitive division top to bottom, the AFC North boasts just one serious Super Bowl threat this season. The Bengals are making some of the worst decisions, and the Browns don’t seem to be adding much to the roster. The Steelers’ quarterback situation is embarrassing, but they haven’t had a losing season since 2003.
