Myles Turner’s recent podcast episode with Breanna Stewart was probably one that should’ve been saved for after his retirement. On NBA and WNBA star’sjnk,j recent show, Game Recognize Game, the Bucks center spilled the beans on a few interesting aspects of Milwaukee’s 2024-2025 team, which you can hear starting at the 20:45 mark. Turner was not subtle about his objections, naming two people in particular who tanked the overall level of accountability in the locker room:

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Doc Rivers.

Yikes.

What It Means For Doc

Doc Rivers was discussed on Myles Turner's podcast, and not in a flattering way.

Doc Rivers is old, but not ancient. At 64 years old, it wasn’t inconceivable for him to eventually land another NBA head coaching gig. Now? It’s gonna be a tough road.

I’ve always found Rivers vastly overrated as a coach, but his résumé does include over 1,100 wins and a title with the Celtics in ‘08 (no one ever got more opportunities based off a single title with a stacked roster than Doc Rivers). If he is still motivated to lead an NBA team, someone would’ve come knocking. Unfortunately for him, not only is he a coach who would be on his fourth stop since that championship 18 years ago, but also one who runs a loose ship. This is one of the things Myles Turner spoke about to Breanna Stewart.

According to Turner, Doc got a little too relaxed with the fines handed out to players with habitual tardiness. “Guys were late all the time,” said the Bucks big man. “Guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up. Guys were missing meetings. It was one of the craziest things I personally ever experienced.”

Myles Turner had more in the tank, going on to say “Any other team I’ve been on, guys got fined. And there was a sense of order and a sense of understanding. So yeah, you’re late to the plane? Fine. You’re late to treatment? Fine. You’re late to film? Fine. But I personally did not experience that last year for the first time in my career. So we’ll see what Taylor Jenkins does, our new coach.”

Ouch.

Doc Rivers is already a Hall of Famer, as he is part of the 2026 class that will be officially inducted in August of this year. Whatever else he accomplishes on the hardwood is a bonus, thankfully for him; a guy in his position coming off a 32-50 season with questionable leadership skills seems unlikely to be hired again.

What It Means For Giannis

Giannis Antetokounmpo was mentioned by name on Myles Turner's podcast, and not in a flattering way.

Not only did Myles Turner single out Doc, but identified one specific player as an exemplification of the former head coach’s shortcomings: Giannis Antetokounmpo.

When Stewart asked her co-host if he could identify the player most likely to be tardy, he said that was an easy answer. “Giannis. Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants, really. I think that this kind of just came with the territory that — and once I saw what was going down, I was like, ‘Hey man, more power to you. They ain’t going to fine you. S***, do what you do.'”

This one is even saltier than the Doc thing. Giannis is still on the team and is the franchise cornerstone, though both sides might be ready for a divorce. You always want your stars to lead from the front, and seemingly everything we’ve ever heard about the Greek Freak off the court has been positive. Not anymore, thanks to Myles Turner.

This was music to my ears as a Heat fan. The Giannis market has been hot for a while now, with the Heat nearly pulling a trade off at the deadline of this season. The Bucks are still exploring a partner to ship out their all-time great, but injury-prone, big man, and the Heat are still allegedly the front-runners. Throwing in potential character issues might drop the price tag a little, which helps Miami’s cause. Obviously I’m banking on the Heat’s legendary culture and structure to rid the Greek Freak of any of these bad habits; leave those in Wisconsin, capisce?

Here’s hoping the Celtics, who have more assets than the Heat, don’t jump the line and acquire the former MVP instead of us.

End Of My Myles Turner Rant

Some things are better left unsaid. If you must say them, certainly don’t do them on a podcast. Throwing two massive NBA figures like Doc Rivers and Giannis Antetokounmpo under the bus is an awful look for Myles Turner that will certainly have ripple effects the Milwaukee Bucks will deal with.

Strike when the iron is hot, Pat Riley!
