Fresh off their series win over the Washington Nationals, the Milwaukee Brewers head west to take on their National League Central rival, the St. Louis Cardinals. The three-game set at Busch Stadium begins Monday night and culminates with a Wednesday matinee performance.

Both teams are part of an historic beginning to the season. The NL Central is the first division to ever have all of its teams at .500 or better at the beginning of May. The Cardinals are 20-14 and in second place, while the Brewers sit at 18-15 but just 3.5 games behind the first-place Chicago Cubs.

This Milwaukee at St. Louis preview includes probable pitchers and key players as the Brewers look to build on momentum from their two consecutive series wins.

During their latest stretch of seven games, the Brewers won five and have benefited from superior pitching. Beginning with last Sunday’s 5-0 over the Pittsburgh Pirates, Milwaukee has allowed just 14 earned runs, nine of which were surrendered in their two losses.

Kyle Harrison turned in two impressive starts during the last week of games. On Sunday against the Pirates, Harrison allowed just one hit while striking out 12 in six innings. The lefthander followed up that gem with another strong outing on Saturday against the Nationals. In picking up his third win of the season, Harrison scattered seven hits over six innings while allowing just one earned run.

Starters Chad Patrick and Misiorowski also spun beauties on the mound during the seven-game span. Patrick went five innings, allowing two earned runs on just one hit in Tuesday’s 13-2 blowout over the Arizona Diamondbacks. “The Miz” was even more sparkling in his Friday night start at Washington. In his 5.1 innings of work, Misiorowski did not give up a hit before leaving with hamstring soreness. That cautionary measure will not keep him from missing his next scheduled start in St. Louis.

The Brewers should receive some good news early this upcoming week with the expected season debut of outfielder Jackson Chourio. During a World Baseball Classic tuneup for Venezuela in February, the talented youngster was struck in the hand by a pitch. After gutting out several games during the tournament, he was diagnosed with a fractured bone in his left middle finger.

Chourio’s comeback hit a snag on Saturday as he fouled a pitch off of his foot while rehabbing for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds. X-rays were negative, but it could delay his initial 2026 appearance by a couple of days.

St. Louis Cardinals Preview: Strengths And Key Players

The Cardinals have started the 2026 campaign hotter than the so-called experts believed they would. After finishing 78-84 in 2025, expectations from Redbird fans were tempered for this season. After playing well above .500 through April, hopes of October baseball in the Gateway City have been revived.

Leading the way for St. Louis is outfielder Jordan Walker. After hitting just 11 home runs over the last two seasons combined, Walker has already slugged ten dingers this year. That impressive stat goes along with his team-leading .315 batting average and his 27 runs batted in. Alec Burleson leads the Cardinals in runs knocked in with 28.

On the mound, Michael McGreevy has put together a solid start to his season. He leads St. Louis with a 2.52 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through his seven 2026 starts. Four Cardinals have three wins each, and Riley O’Brien has nine saves in 11 opportunites.

End Of My Milwaukee Brewers Rant: Divisional Battles Mean More

The upcoming series with the Cardinals marks the first of three for the Brewers against teams with well over a .500 record. After returning from St. Louis, the Brew Crew welcome the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres to town. While games against those teams will be challenging, the task at hand is figuring out their division rivals.

Taking at least two of three in St. Louis would result in the third straight series win for the Brewers. Doing so would earn them the necessary confidence to battle the next obstacles on their tough schedule.
