The Milwaukee Brewers will play six games this upcoming week, from April 28th through May 3rd. Three contests are scheduled for American Family Field against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Tuesday through Thursday. Following that, the Brew Crew hit the road to take on the Nationals in Washington, DC, over the weekend.

Following the salvaging of the final game of a three-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, Milwaukee now stands at 14-13 in the National League Central standings. That mark currently places them tied for last place, but the Brewers are only three and one-half games behind the first-place Cincinnati Reds.

Milwaukee Brewers Offensive Struggles Continue

Following the action this weekend, Milwaukee now finds itself tied for last in all of the MLB in home runs. Along with the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants, the Brewers’ 19 round-trippers are the fewest in all of baseball.

The last Milwaukee player to hit a long ball was Brice Turang, and he did so over a week ago on April 18 against the Marlins in Miami.

Part of the reason for the Brewers’ power outage is the slugging that is currently on the injured list. Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich, and Andrew Vaughn, who combined for 59 home runs in 2025, are not available. Yelich has played 15 games this season, Vaughn only one, and Chourio has yet to make his 2026 debut.

Members of Milwaukee’s pitching staff have been forced to bear the brunt of the offense’s offensiveness. Beginning with the loss to the Marlins on April 19th, the Brewers lost five of seven, including four in a row in the middle of the week. During that stretch, however, they scored just two runs fewer than their opponents (29-31).

One familiar adversary whom Milwaukee will see this week is Diamondback third baseman Nolan Arenado. Having spent the previous five seasons within the division as a St. Louis Cardinal, Arenado took on the role of the latest “Brewer Killer.” For his career, Arenado has tortured Milwaukee pitching, registering a .928 OPS to go along with 24 homers and 77 RBI against the Crew.

On the flip side, Brewers catcher William Contreras cannot wait to welcome Arizona to town. In just 22 career games against the Diamondbacks, Contreras has slugged seven home runs and eight doubles, and his OPS of 1.227 is off the charts.

Milwaukee enters the week having lost its last two series against the Detroit Tigers on the road and the Pirates at home.

Arizona Diamondbacks Preview: Strengths and Key Players

Arizona enters the mid-week series with Milwaukee with a 15-12 record, good enough for third in the NL West. Pitching has been a strong suit for the Diamondbacks in 2026, especially the starting rotation.

The three Arizona starters the Brewers will face this week are a combined 7-1. Soroka leads the team in wins, ERA, and strikeouts, and he has surrendered just two home runs thus far in 2026.

Rodriguez has started five games, but his team has lost two of those outings in tough fashion. He was not the pitcher of record in a 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 28, when he gave up just one earned run over five innings. On April 3 against the Atlanta Braves, Rodriguez put together his best game of the young season, in which he held the Braves scoreless over the first seven innings. The Diamondbacks could not muster any run support, and the bullpen gave up the decisive runs in a 2-0 loss.

Paul Sewald is tied for second for the major-league lead in saves with seven, and he is perfect in such opportunities.

End Of My Milwaukee Brewers Rant: The Bats Need To Wake Up

Keeping their proverbial heads above water has been the main goal through the first month of the season for the Brewers. The team knows that help is on the way when the walking wounded return for duty.

Once the calendar turns over to May, however, the season will be roughly 20% over. Milwaukee is not in danger of throwing away any chance of postseason play yet, but its performance over the past week has not instilled much confidence in Brewers fans.

After the off day on Monday, the time is right for the Brew Crew to arouse their bats from their week-long slumber on Tuesday against the Diamondbacks.
