According to ESPN, the University of Michigan has suspended its head football coach, Sherrone Moore, for two games during the 2025 season. This comes as the NCAA continues its investigation into the alleged “sign stealing” scandal surrounding former staffer Connor Stallions.
Moore is accused of deleting a text message thread with Stallions, which was then recovered and handed to the NCAA. This suspension by the university does not prevent the NCAA from imposing its own punishment for the incident, which could occur at any time. An NCAA suspension could also be longer than the two-game suspension he will face in 2025.
When Will The Suspension Occur?

The suspension will occur during the third and fourth games of the season, which are against Central Michigan and on the road at Nebraska. Coach Moore will also be barred from all team-related activities during those two weeks. We can assume the university and Coach Moore decided on this timing to not interfere with his return to Norman in week 2.
While the suspension comes at a critical point of the season, the Wolverines have plenty of head coaching experience on staff. Offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey and associate head coach Biff Poggi are the two names coach Moore will likely look at to take over during his suspension. Biff Poggi would be the best candidate due to his recent coaching stint at the University of Charlotte from 2022-24.
End Of My Michigan Football Rant
The NCAA investigation into the Wolverines over the alleged sign-stealing scandal will continue throughout the offseason until a resolution is made. We will see what punishments the NCAA brings to the Wolverines within the next few months, as the investigation nears it’s two year mark.
For now, the Wolverines will be without their head coach for two games of the 2025 season.
