After humiliating loss to Brighton, Ruben Amorim shared that his team is the worst team in the history of Manchester United.
Manchester United’s bad performances don’t seem to be coming to an end anytime soon. Ruben Amorim acknowledged that with their current performance, his team are the worst in the history of the club.
Amorim’s declaration comes after his side lost against Brighton at Old Trafford with a 3-1 result. The defeat marked Manchester United’s 10th defeat of the season. It also marked a new record broken, but not the kind that Amorim might hope for.
This is the second time in Manchester United’s history that they lost six of their first 12 home games in a season. The first time was in the 1893-94 season. Amorim’s frustration is probably shared by the club’s fans who were hoping for a new beginning.
After the defeat, Amorim got candid about Manchester United’s current status during a press conference.
“I am not naive. We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. We have to acknowledge that and change that. In 10 games in the Premier League we won three, I know that. Imagine this for a fan of Man United, imagine this for me. You are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. Imagine that. We need to survive this moment. I know that.”
In addition to saying that Manchester United’s current team is the worst in the history of the club, Amorim also admitted that other teams are a lot better. After facing several defeats against teams such as Newcastle and Bournemouth, he was left frustrated.
“The opponents are better than us in many details, we cannot be consistent. I am not helping my players in the moment. It is a hard moment, We have to acknowledge we are in a very difficult situation, all the bad records, losing games at home, losing in Premier League, we are underperforming.”
Along with his bold statements, Amorim also stated that Manchester United have to keep going no matter what happens.
“It’s unacceptable to lose so many games for any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really hard moment but we have to continue, we have to continue, there is no other way. We need to suffer and continue. Our players are really nervous and anxious. When you go inside the last pitch you remember the last games here, if I feel it the players feel it a lot. The only way is to continue to do the same and to win games.”
Amorim is now faced with the tough task of trying to save his team. The team has managed to collect only 11 points from 11 games in the league. This statistic isn’t that exciting for Amorim or for Manchester United’s fans.
Many saw his statements as bold, while others thought that he was kind of exaggerating. The fact still remains that there is some truth to his declaration, especially with all the losses they have been going through.
This isn’t the first time that Amorim shared his honest thoughts. Just last month, the Manchester United head coach said it was a possibility that his side would get relegated, and the table shows that it isn’t impossible. This, however, won’t be the first time in the history of the club since they were relegated five times before.
Of course, Amorim is hoping that things will change and soon. Otherwise, it is going to be a long season for Manchester United and their fans.
