Manchester United’s Brazilian winger, Antony, has finally joined Real Betis after a lot of rumors about the move. He joins them on a loan.
Antony’s move to Real Betis isn’t that surprising. He hasn’t been performing that well since he joined Manchester United. In fact, he was described by many as one of the worst signing in the history of the club. He joined them coming from Ajax in a deal that reached around $95 million, but he has failed to meet the high expectations set for him.
With his terrible performance, many United fans demanded that Antony leaves the club. The Brazilian didn’t manage to join the starting XI for a while. He might hope that the move to Real Betis will witness him finding the right pace and performing well.
After a lot of speculation about a deal happening, Manchester United have announced that Antony joined La Liga’s side, Real Betis, on a loan. Now, Antony will spend time at the Spanish side until the end of 2024/25. Hopefully, he will manage to find success there.
This success wasn’t found at Manchester United. The Brazilian winger has made just 14 appearances this season in all competitions. He also managed to score one single goal, which isn’t what fans expected.
Manchester United shared more details about the unsurprising move. “Manchester United forward Antony will spend the rest of the 2024/25 season in Spain, subject to international clearance. The Brazil international has completed a loan move to Real Betis in La Liga,” a club statement read.
The club also made sure to send well wishes to Antony as he embarks on a new journey. “Everybody at United would like to wish Antony the best of luck for his spell in Seville.” The fans themselves might be hoping that Antony will finally live up to his price tag.
Antony’s loan deal to Real Betis might be a much needed new beginning for him. He joins the side of Manuel Pellegrini who previously managed Manchester City and West Ham United.
While the loan doesn’t have a buy option, it might help Antony improve his form. It is also reported that United will contribute to Antony’s wages during the loan spell.
Antony made the perfect start for his career at Manchester United as he helped them win against Arsenal since he scored back then. This beginning, however, didn’t translate into lasting success. In 96 matches, Antony has scored just 12 goals and made 5 assists. These numbers aren’t that good, especially since he is a winger.
The struggle was clear in the 2023-24 term as Antony didn’t perform as well as expected. In 29 league matches during that term, he only managed to score and assist once.
Now that Antony is joining Real Betis, some of the pressure might be lifted off him. It’s a fresh start for the Brazilian winger who will hope for different results at the Spanish side. Manchester United’s fans will hope that this move help Antony live up to the expectations they had when he joined the club.
