Rio Ferdinand made a bold claim on why Manchester United players shine better after leaving the club.
Rio Ferdinand talked about why some Manchester United players find more success after their departure from the club whether on a permanent deal or a loan.
Ferdinand had some bold claims to make regarding Manchester United’s players. He made these comments on an episode of his podcast titled Rio Ferdinand Presents.
Ferdinand said when explaining why former Manchester United players play better after leaving the club:
“You look at Antony, he’s got a man-of-the-match performance and a goal and assist in two games. McTominay is playing like primetime Jude Bellingham at the moment. You’ve got Elanga, who’s a flying winger. You’ve got all these players that are leaving the club that are looking like new, dynamic footballers because the shackles are off, and the cloud and the pressure of Old Trafford, the badge, all that that brings, is allowing them to go ‘you know what, wow, what a difference that is’.”
Ferdinand didn’t just mention Elanga, Antony, and McTominay. He also talked about Marcus Rashford who departed Manchester United to join Aston Villa on a loan.
The former player said that he predicts the same success for Rashford:
“You’re probably going to see the same from Rashford. It’s about unlocking what has unlocked Old Trafford for these players to perform.”
Ferdinand has a valid point with what he is saying. Several players have easily found success after choosing to leave Manchester United. Rashford could be the latest addition to the growing list.
Scott McTominay had been performing more than well for his new club, Napoli, as he scored six goals and made four assists. Antony too has seen a rise in his form as he recently won man-of-the-match twice at Real Betis. He also scored one goal and had an assist so far.
The former player’s words also indicate that something is wrong at Manchester United. The club has been struggling in recent matches, and yet players manage to find success outside of the club.
United fans will surely hope that current players can turn things around and find their footing just like the departed players. Whether Manchester United will finally regain its form or not is yet to be seen.
