Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement over the signing of Danish left-back Patrick Chinaza Dorgu. The reported fee is around €30 million (£25.2m) plus $5m in add-ons.

Manchester United Finally Got Their Left Back

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has been yearning for a new left-back, and the 20-year-old Danishman might just be the answer. The left-back signed a five-year contract with Manchester United days ago and is now set to complete the final steps to finalize the transfer, as the reliable Fabrizio Romano reported

United desperately needed some reinforcements to turn their dreadful season somehow around. If everything now proceeds according to plan, the fullback will become the first senior signing for Ruben Amorim.

Player Profile

Patrick Dorgu Manchester United

Ruben Amorim has been keen to add players that primarily fit in his 3-4-2-1 formation. The left-back position has been a revolving door for a long time, with Luke Shaw’s persistent injury concerns and Tyrell Malacia’s inconsistency after a lengthy period out due to a knee injury.

Manchester United have been forced to improvise, as Diogo Dalot, who’s primarily right-footed, has had to step in as an emergency left-wing back. Patrick Dorgu is a versatile player. If necessary, the 20-year-old can operate as a left-back, a wing-back, and even a left-sided midfielder and play at both flanks. The Danish is known for his pace, strength, defensive prowess, and mature ability for someone who’s just 20.

Dorgu has been a mainstay at Serie A side Lecce since 18, racking up 53 appearances for the club. A major positive for Manchester United is the Danish left-back’s fitness. Out of 53 appearances, he’s missed just one game due to an unknown injury that kept him out for five days.

In a squad ravaged by fitness setbacks that have derailed their league and European campaigns, such reliability is a rare asset. This is especially true in the left-back spot, which Manchester United fans feel might be cursed. In an era where United is hit hard with financial difficulties and struggling to sell players that would generate some funds for further transfers, a €30M deal for a talented left-back is not bad at all.

End Of Rant

Only time will tell how this deal could turn out for Manchester United. Still, Amorim is a manager who knows what he’s doing despite his team sitting 12th in the Premier League, and he could make very good use of a youngster who’s compared to the likes of Theo Hernandez by his teammates in Leece.
