Manchester United fans hoping that new manager Ruben Amorim was the answer to their prayers may well be wondering if the decision to axe two-time cup winner Erik ten Hag might not have been such a wise move after all.

Clearly the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson following his quarter century plus silverware-laden role was always going to leave the Old Trafford club with a major hole to fill, but supporters would not have imagined just how long it would take to even come close to the achievements the Scot presided over and the journey goes on.

A lack of proven goalscorers at the Premier League side is a worrying problem to say the least, but fans who feel that the Portuguese manager has what it takes to turn things around may want to back that hunch with a bet. In this case, visiting here to make the most of this exclusive offer and other promotions would make such a wager far more enticing.

Thus far this season, Manchester United has managed just 33 goals in 27 games and most worryingly, of that meagre total, recognised strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have managed just five. That sum total comes from a total of 50 combined appearances.

This pretty much sums up the situation that Amorim finds himself in and arguably, the level of quality that those two forwards fall under is not what you’d usually associate with starting players of a team of Manchester United’s calibre.

So, what’s the solution? Well, Amorim is no doubt already thinking ahead to the summer, hoping that he can lure in some decent, or perhaps even good, striker options. The likely lack of Champions League action might mean that the search for players of a high level could be tricky, albeit Manchester United could still secure a route to Europe’s premier club competition via the Europa League.

One player that is perennially linked with the club, even before Amorim took over, is Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokores. The one-time Coventry City man has proven an astonishing success in Portugal, as Amorim knows well.

The Swedish international have notched up 80 goals in 89 games over the past two seasons, but by all accounts, the old-fashioned centre forward is keen on a potential move to a team who can guarantee him Champions League football, which may be an issue for Amorim.

Another player linked with a move to Manchester United is Crystal Palace’s Jean-Phillipe Mateta, who has been in great scoring form at the South London side of late. The 27-year-old may be an easier nut to crack and the fact that he is a proven Premier League player could come in handy when it comes to drawing up a summer wish-list.

Mateta has scored eight Premier League goals in 2024 alone, and for context, that flurry alone would make him the top scorer at Manchester United for the whole season.

Other forwards who have been linked with the club include Lille’s Jonathan David as well as Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, which is a move that seems more plausible given that he has struggled to cement a place in the Everton starting eleven since returning from injury.
