Manchester United has just received transfer advice from former Brazil player Julio Baptista. He told the club that Wolves’ Matheus Cunha could be their main man if he was to join the club.
In an interview with Foot Italia, Baptista talked about Cunha after the interviewer asked about him. The interviewer asked, “Matheus Cunha has been strongly linked to Manchester United. Has he got the personality to go into the club and be the leader they’re clearly missing?”
Baptista then replied with a lot of praise for Cunha. He said:
“Matheus Cunha is an incredible player. Things didn’t work out at Atletico Madrid, but sometimes you need to go about things in a different way, take a different path. Many clubs are looking at him right now, so he just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s doing incredible work, having a great season. If he moves to a big club now, he will show his full potential.”
The talk about a big club led the former Brazilian international to advise Cunha to head to Manchester United. He continued:
“I love his personality. Some players have been weighed down by the weight of the Manchester United shirt, I don’t think that Cunha is one of those players. I think he would love to have the responsibility of being the main man at a giant club like Manchester United.”
There have been a lot of recent talks about Manchester United’s interest in Cunha. This is quite understandable, especially with how well he has been performing with Wolves. He has scored 14 goals in 28 matches. There is also the fact that Ruben Amorim is very interested in bringing Cunha to Manchester United.
The Brazilian international has a £62.5 million release clause, which United might be looking to use. Before they manage to do this, however, they have to let go of several players to have enough money to bring in others.
Some of the players who might be sold include Rasmus Hojlund who hasn’t been performing well, along with Antony who has been shining on loan with Real Betis and might make his move permanent.
It might be a reckless decision if Cunha decided to join Manchester United. The club has been struggling for a while, and it might not be a wise move to head there.
There are other clubs interested in Cunha that might be a better option than United. It has been rumored that Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are interested in the Brazilian.
Cunha should consider carefully his next move. He is still young since he is only 25 years old, and he would want to take his career forward instead of backward. Manchester United is known for letting stars lose what made them special. Antony, for example, didn’t find success at United. As soon as he was loaned to Betis, he managed to show why Manchester United bought him in the first place.
Newcastle United or Arsenal are probably the better options for Cunha. Both teams would find him useful, and both are currently better than United.
I understand that Manchester United is a big club, but let’s face reality: they have not been performing well. Until they find their footing, players should choose clubs that are more stable.
