West Ham are reported to be worried about the mental state of Lucas Paqueta, and that it might affect him and whether he will play for the rest of the season. This mental state comes at a time when Paqueta is being accused of spot-fixing in a betting case.
West Ham have started getting worried about Lucas Paqueta after he broke down in their match against Tottenham Hotspur. After being booked for a challenge on Mikey Moore, the Brazilian started crying. He was seen using his jersey to wipe away his tears.
After this moment, Paqueta was consoled by some on the pitch, including referee Michael Oliver. He didn’t stay in the game for long, as he was then substituted.
The reason behind Paqueta’s emotional response has to do with the betting case against him. He is being accused of getting yellow cards on purpose to help people close to him win their bets.
Paqueta, however, still insists that he is innocent. It’s understandable why he would cry after receiving a yellow card during these circumstances.
According to The Telegraph, the case against Lucas Paqueta has finally resumed after a pause. It is supposed to end by next week.
Despite this, the verdict wouldn’t be announced immediately. Paqueta and his loved ones will have to wait for around five weeks to find out whether he is deemed innocent or not.
The Telegraph also reported that those at West Ham are worried about Lucas Paqueta’s mental state. After what happened during the Tottenham match, they worry that it is affecting him more than expected.
Several people at West Ham now believe it would be better to consider whether Paqueta should play the rest of the season or not. Some of them see it would be better to rest him.
Lucas Paqueta should be given a chance by West Ham to prove that he is a professional individual. Despite the serious claims, Paqueta kept showing up and doing his best to support his team.
It would be unfair to sideline him because he showed some emotions, which is understandable. If he can’t play, he will say that he can’t play. It might make things worse if even his team thinks he shouldn’t play for a while. After all, he might be banned for life if the charges against him prove to be true.
I actually feel sorry for Paqueta. It’s an unfortunate situation where proving your innocence might be tricky. I just hope that he would be okay no matter what is the result of the case.
