Liverpool has been blessed recently with the outstanding performances of Virgil van Dijk. The defender’s future is still unclear, and he made comments regarding it that aren’t reassuring to fans.
Van Dijk had a stellar performance during Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Tottenham in Carabao Cup semi-final. Despite the reassuring result, Van Dijk made comments about his future that left fans worried.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said:
“I am feeling good, what the future brings I have no idea. Anyone who says they know, they are absolutely wrong.”
Someone of Van Dijk’s talent is essential to any team, and he is certainly essential to Liverpool. Under Arne Slot’s leadership, the defender has returned to his previous glory. Now, fans can’t imagine the club without him.
The comments are worrying to the fans who hoped that contract talks between the club and Van Dijk might be going well. It seems, however, that this isn’t the case.
It is clear to everyone, that the team needs Van Dijk in their defensive line. No matter what his demands are, the club shouldn’t risk losing someone like him.
It would be a real blow to the team to lose not just a talented player, but also an amazing leader who can make the difference in any game.
The club has to move fast if they want to keep Van Dijk with them. The Netherlands defender’s contract is set to end by June.
This puts Liverpool in a tough position, as they still have to reach a deal with Mohammed Salah as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold. Losing their best players won’t be a good look for them or for any team.
The 33-year-old defender still has a lot to offer. When speaking to Amazon prime, he said:
“I love the club, the club loves me. I love the fans, the fans love me and it is a very good foundation to be successful. In my opinion I can play for another three, four years at least at the highest level. We will see what the future brings.”
Van Dijk’s comments will surely leave Liverpool fans unsatisfied with the delay in reaching a deal with such an important player. Whether Liverpool will give new contract to Van Dijk or not is still to be seen.
