What Did We Just Witness?
The Detroit Lions were determined to prove to the league that their ugly week 1 loss against the Green Bay Packers was a fluke and they still have fuel in the tank.
Well, they did it alright. They hosted the Chicago Bears this Sunday and put their pedal to the metal to run up the final score of 52-21, leaving Chicago with jaws dropped.
Spoiled Homecoming

Ben Johnson, Chicago’s fanbase, and pretty much all of the NFL was looking forward to watching the Bears waltz into Ford Field to give a beating…reverse UNO card inbound.
Lions HC Dan Campbell had other plans for Johnson’s return to Detroit. Campbell’s gameplan was plain and simple: better coaching, better performance, better execution.
Let’s break down what happened:
When Did They Give Up?
Watching the Bears come out of the half felt like Matt Nagy led them out of the tunnel. Same old story, only down 14-28, surely you make adjustments, right?
Well, if you know Matt Nagy lore, then you know there were no adjustments made. Lions QB Jared Goff ended the game with 334 passing YDs and 5 TD.
Chicago’s injured secondary did no justice for the team, allowing Goff to spread the wealth on offense feeding TD passes to Brock Wright, Jameson Williams, and Amon-Ra St. Brown three times!

Secondary Is Screwed
Chicago’s defense has missed many key players, which haven’t helped whatsoever. The biggest loss to the secondary is CB Jaylon Johnson, possibly out for the season with a groin injury.
The Bears need to sign free agent cornerbacks to fill these gaps. Get young and talented guys like Asante Samuel Jr., or veterans like James Bradberry or Kendall Fuller.
Bears CB Kyler Gordon has been inactive since week 1. Even when he comes back, depth is what matters, depth helps substitutions or possible injuries.
Who’s Up Next?
The Bears face Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys next week at home. There is a lot of concern for how this game will play out and be another embarrassment.
Prescott and the Cowboys have had two weeks of divisional opponents back-to-back with non-stop scoring shootouts putting up 64 pts in two games, one being Super Bowl champs Philadelphia Eagles.

End Of My Lions Bears Rant
This game was godawful to watch. I’ve become so numb to giving a reaction to bad Bears games in recent years but Jesus that was just difficult to sit through. If I’m Ben Johnson, adjustments NEED to be made, it may be a depth chart issue, there’s plenty of good free agents on either offense or defense that the Bears should look into to improve this team. For now, we look forward to the Cowboys in week 3.
