Bayer Leverkusen will miss Florian Wirtz due to an ankle injury. This will make Wirtz miss the team’s clash against Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Unfortunately for Bayer Leverkusen fans, the team will be missing the service of Florian Wirtz. He will be sidelined due to an ankle injury, and he is set to miss several matches.
The news of Wirtz’s injury was announced through an official statement by Leverkusen. Wirtz was brought on in the second half of the team’s match against Werder Bremen.
“Bayer 04 will have to manage without Florian Wirtz. The Germany international suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle in the home game against Werder Bremen (0-2) on Saturday. That was the diagnosis from an MRI scan following the game. The 21-year-old midfielder will be out of action for several weeks.”
The club’s sporting managing director, Simon Rolfes, issued a statement regarding the injury:
“The loss of Florian obviously hits us hard in this phase of the season but we will compensate for him with a strong squad. We know Florian and also know he will come back as soon as possible. Everybody will support him in that. We are assuming he will be fully fit again for the end of the season run-in.”
The injury of Wirtz is the latest misfortune that Leverkusen go through. They have lost their last two games, which left their fans worried about what will happen next.
The first match they lost was against Bayern Munich in the Champions League where they lost 3-0. The second match was against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga where they lost 2-0.
Leverkusen would be hoping for a miracle to happen that would keep them competing in the Champions League. It is more likely that they would be eliminated.
Leverkusen losing Wirtz is quite bad for them. Wirtz is an essential player for Xabi Alonso’s side, and missing him would only make things worse.
Wirtz managed to soccer 15 goals in 39 matches in all competitions this season. This kind of performance makes losing him to injury a quite unfortunate event.
Alonso will now have to think of ways to make Leverkusen play well without Wirtz on the pitch. If he managed to do that, then he would prove himself as a great coach once more. Right now, however, things aren’t looking well.
This is a not very good period for Leverkusen fans who were hoping to repeat the success of last season. Alonso would have to turn things around if he wants to remain at the German side.
