Jayden Quaintance is headed back to Kentucky. The first time, he was committed to John Calipari. This time, he will play for Mark Pope after decommitting last year and moving to Arizona State following the coaching changes.
Back To Kentucky Where It All Began
Based on potential, Jayden Quaintance is a top five pick in next year’s NBA draft, and today he chose Mark Pope and Kentucky as his destination. Per 247 Sports, he was the No. 6 overall player in the transfer portal as well.

This past season, Quaintance suffered a knee injury at the end of the season and underwent surgery on March 19th to repair the damage.
One of the biggest portal additions of the Mark Pope era in Lexington, the Wildcats have potentially secured one of the best players in the transfer portal when healthy.
Last season, Pope had to replace an entire roster with new faces, and now, with extra time to prepare and build, he’s focused on assembling one of his best rosters in Lexington yet.
Mark Pope Building A Legit Roster
One of the biggest differences this season compared to last is the time Pope has had to build his roster and team, bringing in players who fit his system and fostering better team chemistry.
Last season, Pope had little time to build a roster and filled it with mid-major players. He managed to lead them to the Sweet 16, knocking off national champion Florida along the way. Kentucky also achieved a season sweep over Tennessee and entered the NCAA tournament as a No. 3 seed.

Jayden Quaintance, standing 6′ 10″, averaged 9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game last season. He is one of the biggest recruits Pope has landed so far and is expected to have a standout season, potentially becoming one of the best players in the era of Pope.
Transfer Class Heating Up
Kentucky has added four players to this new transfer portal class, and according to 247 Sports, the Wildcats currently hold the No. 3 class in the nation.

Mark Pope now has a transfer class of Jaland Lowe, Kam Williams, Mo Dioubate and Jayden Quaintance. Absolutely insane https://t.co/GUilLUJcIM
Mark Pope is making strides. There was a lot of discussion this offseason about the lack of moves by the Wildcats, but as we know, the transfer portal is fluid and unpredictable. Now, with the gloves off, Kentucky boasts one of the top classes in the portal.
So, relax, Big Blue Nation!
End Of My Kentucky Rant

As the roster gets sorted out, the job Mark Pope has done has been absolutely sensational. His work in the transfer portal, recruiting, and the incoming class for next year is shaping up to be one of the best he’s had in Lexington.
Kentucky fans can be genuinely excited about the future of Kentucky basketball.
Pope has already added players like Jasper Johnson, Malachi Moreno, and four-star point guard Acaden Lewis. His transfer class also includes Jayden Quaintance, Jaland Lowe, Mouhamed Dioubate, and Kam Williams.
With the potential return of Otega Oweh, Kentucky is set to be one of the top teams in the country as they head into next season.
The best part about the transfer portal is that Kentucky is still not finished. The Wildcats are likely to add a few more players, focusing on securing another guard and possibly another big man to complete the roster in Lexington.
Last season was filled with firsts, and getting Kentucky back on the national stage has been Pope’s top priority. With the NBA talent coming in next season, expect the Wildcats to be one of the top teams with a chance to cut down the nets.
