Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes face off for the fourth time in the playoffs on Sunday in a superstar showdown. Here’s a look at their past meetings.

Josh Allen & Patrick Mahomes Duke It Out

Star quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen face off for the fourth time in five years on Sunday in the AFC Championship. Mahomes has gotten the upper hand with a 3-0 record against Allen. In the regular season, Allen has a 4-1 record against Mahomes, which begs the question, can he beat Mahomes in the big game? Both quarterbacks have put on epic shows in past playoff meetings.

2020 AFC Championship Game

The Bills jumped to a 9-0 lead in their first playoff meeting against the Chiefs. Then, Mahomes lead the Chiefs to 21 unanswered points in the second quarter. The Bills struggled to recover, as they only scored 15 points throughout the rest of the game, losing 24-38. Mahomes was superior, throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns, with help from wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s 172 yards. Allen threw for 287 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and had a below 50-percent completion rate.

2021 AFC Divisional Round

This game is dubbed as one of the best “playoff games” ever. It went to overtime, with three lead changes in the last two minutes of regulation. But Mahomes shocked the NFL with 13 seconds left in the game, when he set up kicker Harrison Bunker for the tying field goal at the end of regulation. The Chiefs won the coin toss and scored a touchdown, leading to an epic 42-36 win, shocking Allen and the Bills. Mahomes threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns, while Allen threw for 329 yards and four touchdowns. Both quarterbacks ran for almost 70 yards.

2023 AFC Divisional Round

This game was a competitive back-and-forth masterpiece. Toward the end of the third quarter, Allen threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to put the Bills up 24-20. The Chiefs answered as running back Isiah Pacheco scored a four-yard touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter to put the Chiefs up 27-24. After multiple defensive stops, Kicker Tyler Bass missed a tying 44-yard field goal, succumbing the Bills to another playoff loss. Mahomes threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns, while Allen threw for 186 yards, one touchdown, and ran for 72 yards, as the leading Bills rusher that game.

Their Week 11 Meeting

In week 11 this season, Allen was almost unstoppable, running the ball against defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s Chiefs. Allen’s epic 26-yard touchdown run with two minutes left was the nail in the coffin for the Chiefs, which put the Bills up 30-21 for the win. The Chiefs led the NFL in blitz percentage (35.8%) and only managed to force one error out of Allen: an interception. He threw for 186 yards, one touchdown, and ran for two touchdowns with 72 rushing yards. Mahomes threw for 215 yards and two touchdowns to tight end Travis Kelce.

End Of Rant

This matchup between Mahomes and Allen should be another entertaining clash between two stars trying to etch their stone in history. They have provided down-to-the-wire games in the past. Allen has a leg up against Mahomes in the regular season but can’t get over the hump in the playoffs. Allen will have to play his best football, and have his defense stop the Chiefs and Mahomes when it matters most, if he wants a chance to win his first Super Bowl. Right now, Mahomes is the king of the NFL, and the Chiefs are looking to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
