JJ Redick, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, has had a spectacular first season coaching in the NBA. He was not, however, named the 2024-25 Coach of the Year; Cleveland head coach Kenny Atkinson received that honor instead. With that being said, Redick was plenty deserving of the award.

JJ Redick Has A Relentless Work Ethic

When it comes to working hard, Redick is second to none. He is known for obsessing over his craft, always searching for a way to perfect it. This was evident when he prepared to play the Denver Nuggets earlier this season. He is always trying to improve his coaching style, making sure that his team is set up for success. Redick is willing to work countless hours to ensure that he and his team are ready for the next challenge. His strong work ethic has paid off, too. The Lakers went 50-32 this regular season, good enough to rank them third in the stacked Western Conference.

The Lakers are currently facing the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. They are down two games to one, but Redick has his eyes set on a deep playoff run. With his diligence in place, expect him to prepare his team well for the remainder of the series. He will not go down without a fight, and he wants to have a strong finish to his rookie season.

A Fierce Mentality

Perhaps the reason that stands out the most when making the case for Redick as Coach of the Year is his competitive mentality. This is an intangible that the first-year coach possesses. He coaches with an infectious gritty spirit that immediately gives his team an edge over the others.

You can see the sense of determination on his face as he coaches. He recently expressed this ruthless mentality during Game Two of the Lakers’ series against the Timberwolves. Redick doesn’t want to just be another coach in the NBA. He wants to prove himself in the league and bring home multiple NBA Championships to Los Angeles.

A Strong Communicator

One of Redick’s most valuable traits is being a very good communicator. He knows how to get the most out of his players through strong communication. Redick pushes them, but doesn’t come across as overbearing at the same time. Part of the reason that he is so effective at communicating is because he used to be an NBA player himself. He played 15 seasons in the NBA, so he understands the importance of communication when it comes to coaching. That type of first-hand experience is irreplaceable, and it will serve him well years down the road.

End Of My JJ Redick Rant

Redick’s first season coaching in the NBA has been nothing short of amazing. He has proven that he has what it takes to coach at the highest level, and he will undoubtedly continue to excel throughout his career.
