Jesse Love is one of the biggest up-and-coming stars in NASCAR, but what’s his pathway to the Cup Series? He was expected to get a shot with Richard Childress Racing soon, but that may no longer be the case. After the shocking passing of Kyle Busch, Austin Hill has taken over the renumbered 33 car. If this is the route RCR decides to take, Love may have to take a different route to the big stage.
Jesse Love To Wood Brothers?

Love has no choice but to depart RCR at the end of the season if he truly is skipped over for the 33 ride. His pathway to the Cup Series would have completely evaporated, and his prime years could soon be wasted. Some have connected him to Legacy Motorclub, but the Wood Brothers 21 car would be an awesome opportunity for him to have a chance at a top ride.
Josh Berry has not delivered any sign of hope this season, sitting at 31st in points. This move would give Wood Brothers an opportunity to get a young talent in the door. The Penske alliance can’t go unnoticed here either. Love could set himself up for a ride with Ford’s top team in the near future with some uncertainty on Penske’s side.
Could Jesse Love Be Penske’s Next Star?

Love would be looking to become future teammates with one of the drivers who took this very same path. Ryan Blaney, the one driver locked in for the foreseeable future, was brought up through Wood Brothers Racing before making the jump to Penske.
Austin Cindric in the number 2 car would be the most likely path for Love. His performance has not been up to par with the expectations he’s been given. He is currently 16th in points with just one top five. He has just three career wins (two on superspeedways) in 165 career starts. The Penske team has been underperforming as a unit, but he has consistently been poor as his teammates have been winning championships.
Joey Logano is the wild card in this scenario for Love. He has a contract through the 2028 season, but after that is up in the air. He will be 38 when that contract is up and has already made a claim regarding retirement.
“As soon as I feel like I’m a drag on the team and I’m not bringing anything to the table anymore. Whether that’s on the racetrack or off the racetrack. That’s when I need to get out of the way.”
Logano has not had his typical contender-level season more than halfway through the 2026 season. He is sitting at 18th in points. If he is still struggling after the 2028 season, he may fell Roger Penske and the organization as a whole would be better off with a then 24-year-old Love behind the wheel of the 22.
End Of My Jesse Love Rant

Love has the skill to be one of the top guys in the Cup Series garage. The reigning O’Reilly Series champion (currently second) appears to be on the verge of making a career-defining decision. NASCAR silly season will be defined by what happens with Love in 2027.
If Love joins Legacy, he may be stuck running mid-pack. If he sticks around at RCR in the O’Reilly Series for another year, he may lose out on any opportunity. If he joins the Wood Brothers, he could set himself up with a chance to be contending for NASCAR Cup Series championships in a few years.
