Former Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins signed a one-year, $5.25 million deal with the Denver Broncos this week. He joins the roster with Audric Estime, Jaleel McLaughlin, and Tyler Badie as his fellow running backs. In his fifth season in the NFL, Dobbin looks to support a young Broncos team trying to capitalize after breaking their eight-year playoff drought last season.
Dobbins played three seasons for the Baltimore Ravens and one season with the Chargers. Injuries in his career include knee injuries, such as a Week 12 MCL sprain in 2024 and an ACL tear in 2021. These and other injuries kept him out of the 2021 season and forced him to miss most of the following season. The Broncos hope that Dobbins can keep out of trouble and stay healthy in his tenure with the team. Dobbins can inject a new source of life into the Broncos’ running back lineup, but if only he can stay put on the field.
Denver signed Dobbins, betting that he can recreate his output during his time with their division rivals. In 13 games with the Chargers, Dobbins led the team in rushing touchdowns (nine) and yards (905). Dobbins matched his career high for touchdowns and beat his previous rushing yards record of 805 yards in a season.
The Broncos are looking towards Dobbins playing all 16 games this upcoming season and reaching new career highs. The veteran running back aims to improve upon his progress in Los Angeles and break the 1,000 rushing yards milestone for the first time in his career.
Denver and Dobbins will both be testing each other out this upcoming season. The Broncos will monitor Dobbins closely to see if he is a good fit and is producing reasonable numbers. Dobbins will figure out if Denver and he can have a successful 2025 season together. Dobbins’ upcoming season with new teammate, quarterback Bo Nix, and the rest of the offense can make or break his career. He has a “prove-it” deal with Denver, which, if he has a good impact this year, Dobbins will be in line for a contract to secure a spot long-term.
As long as Dobbins stays healthy, he will provide immense results for the young Broncos team ready to achieve championship goals.
