The offseason rumor mill is humming, as contract negotiations between TJ Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers drag into the 2025 season. The future Hall of Fame linebacker turns 31 in October, marking what’s most likely his final opportunity to secure a massive payday. While many dismiss this conversation as an overreaction, one can’t help but speculate upon what kind of haul the Steelers could get in exchange for the superstar.

Why Would He Leave?

Watt could be driven to chase his Super Bowl aspirations elsewhere if the Steelers fail to meet his contract demands. He is still performing at an elite level, but if Pittsburgh isn’t willing to pay the man what he’s worth, he may be left with no choice but to look elsewhere.

Why Would He Stay?

To put it simply, Watt is a Pittsburgh legend. Although his aspirations to win a championship are immense, he may still believe he can do it in Pittsburgh. Getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles or Detroit Lions doesn’t guarantee him a Lombardi Trophy. Under Head Coach Mike Tomlin, the Steelers have made the playoffs in seven of the past 10 years. While they often fail to advance, they still find ways to make the dance.

The persisting issue for the franchise over the past decade has been its inability to find a competent quarterback. If the addition of Aaron Rodgers can solve this long-term issue, it’s not outrageously far-fetched to see them as a serious contender.

Odds On His Next Team

If extension talks continue to simmer over the looming months, here’s where Vegas thinks Watt will land…

+300 – Philadelphia Eagles

+400 – San Francisco 49ers

+600 – Detroit Lions

+700 – New England Patriots

+900 – Seattle Seahawks

End Of TJ Watt Rant

The superstar has been vocal about his desire to remain in Pittsburgh. In addition, many analysts anticipate an extension is lingering, but doubts remain. Super Bowl aspirations aside, it’s only reasonable to assume Watts’ ties to the franchise will propel the two sides to come to an agreement.
