Josh Grizzard is the new face of the offense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Liam Coen decided to ghost them on his way to Jacksonville. Although the offensive coordinator job is new to him, this isn’t Grizzard’s first season with Tampa. He served as the team’s passing game coordinator last season under Liam Coen.

This will help the offense next year with some familiarity, especially Baker Mayfield, who seems to have a new offensive coordinator every year. Grizzard is a complete unknown to most casual fans as the passing game coordinator position does not receive much attention. But Grizzard was in charge of all third down plays last season which the Bucs lead the league at over 51% success rate.

“Josh is bright and innovative and was instrumental in our game planning and play design over the last year” Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said.

Where Did Josh Grizzard Come From?

Grizzard is a Yale athlete who became a student coach in 2011. After graduating, he interned for the Carolina Panthers during their 2012 training camp. This led to stints with the Duke Blue Devils for three years as a quality control coach. He would then jump to the NFL with the Dolphins in the same quality control position, and a brief stint as a wide receivers coach with Miami in 2020 and 2021.

How Good is Grizzard?

When looking at different coordinators in the NFL, most tend to have more to their resume than Grizzard. According to head coach Todd Bowles, that doesn’t matter. He sees a great deal of potential for the 34-year-old coach. He has nothing but great things to say about the young coordinator.

“Josh is bright and innovative and was instrumental in our game planning and play design over the last year,” Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said. “After interviewing several outstanding candidates throughout this process, it ultimately became clear that our best option was here in our building. We had a lot of success offensively last season and during our conversations, Grizz provided some great ideas on how we can build on that. His familiarity with our offense, our players, and the staff will ensure the continuity that is crucial for sustained success.”

How Do The Player’s Feel?

Grizzard or “Grizz” as the players call him has been in the locker room with them for the past season. Mike Evans, the Bucs star wide receiver says that Grizzard can take their offense to a new level, and could make them the best offense in the league. Rachaad White told Barstool that Grizz is “Swaggy” and a “Brillant Mind”. He brings youth and electricity. He hopes that Grizz can stay around for a while.

What Will the Offense Look Like?

Josh Grizzard

Grizzard has spent a ton of time in Miami with Josh McDaniels as well as a season with Liam Coen. The expectation for the offense will be similar to what we saw last season. The running game was tremendous last year and with Grizzard having full control of the offense, expect to have more exciting plays in the passing game. With the offense as loaded as it already is, Grizzard will have loads of talent to distribute the ball to next season.

End Of My Josh Grizzard Rant

The Buccaneers have won the NFC South for four consecutive seasons. The offense ranked No. 3 in total yards (399.5 yards per game), and No. 4 in points per game (29.5). Quarterback Baker Mayfield became just the third quarterback to ever throw for 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns while completing 70% of his passes. It is hard to see how the offense could get any better. But fans are looking forward to seeing what the Grizz can do.
