Kyrie Irving trade rumors are heating up as the Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, and Houston Rockets monitor the Dallas Mavericks star ahead of the 2026 NBA season.

Irving has two years left on his contract and is set to return for the 2026-27 season after recovering from a torn ACL. He averaged 24.7 points per game on 47.3% FG, 4.8 rebounds per game, and 4.6 assists per game during the 2024-25 NBA season.

Why The Pistons Must Make Irving Trade

The Pistons could be a potential destination for Irving. A hypothetical trade package would involve Detroit giving up Ron Holland, Duncan Robinson, Caris LeVert, and both first-round picks in 2027 and 2031.

A trade for a 34-year-old coming off an ACL tear is not a typical Pistons move, but the price might make it a realistic option. Detroit could view Irving as a veteran piece capable of elevating its playoff ceiling. He would be a fantastic number-two scorer alongside Cade Cunningham in 2026-27.

Why A Irving Blockbuster Sets The Raptors Up To Fail

The Raptors could be in talks for Irving. This blockbuster trade would set them up to fail because Toronto would have to give up young assets such as Immanuel Quickley, Gradey Dick, and picks for a deal to happen. He would fit the Raptors’ offensive system while easing pressure as a secondary scoring option.

Toronto would have a potential starting lineup of Irving, RJ Barrett, Brandon Ingram, Scottie Barnes, and Jakob Poeltl. It looks good on paper, but the Raptors need to build properly rather than take shortcuts that will get them nowhere in the long run. This will hurt in the long term because most people who tear their ACL do not come back as the same player.

Why A Irving For VanVleet Swap Makes Zero Sense For Houston’s Future

Irving would improve the Rockets’ backcourt. He and Kevin Durant were teammates on the Brooklyn Nets.

Trading a 32-year-old Fred VanVleet for Irving, with both guards recovering from major injuries, would not make sense for Houston because Irving has only played 168 games in the last three seasons. He played 60 games in 2023, 58 games in 2024, and 50 games in 2025. They need to strengthen their bench, run it back, and keep all of their assets for next season.

End Of My Kyrie Irving Rant

Irving could become a trade candidate, with more changes expected for the Mavericks under Masai Ujiri’s new leadership. His future with Dallas will be a massive topic of discussion this summer, with the dismissal of Jason Kidd.

Irving has built a genuine relationship with the organization and invested a lot in Cooper Flagg’s development this season. A deal will come down to whether the Mavericks see Irving as a foundational piece or prioritize a younger core.
