WWE has been on fire recently, and in the month of July, they have multiple PPVs coming up. There is the Great American Bash on July 12th, Saturday Night Main Event also on July 12th, and the Evolution 2 PPV on July 13th. This week, there has been a tremendous update for the Saturday Night Main Event show as it will be the final match for a WCW legend. His name is Goldberg, and he will finish his career in Atlanta, Georgia.

It has been clear that Goldberg was going to get his retirement match at some point in the year 2025. That was confirmed in November of 2025, and to be honest, with the amount of complaining he’s done for years, they probably gave it to him so he could shut up. Goldberg’s last match in WWE was at the 2022 Elimination Chamber show in Saudi Arabia. He faced Roman Reigns at that show, and that match was horrendous. Now, Goldberg did admit in a Chris Van Vliet interview that he had COVID-19 3 weeks before that match, but he has not had a great match in a while.

When speculating who he could have his final match with, many agreed the only acceptable match would be against Bron Breakker, with how close the two are. However, WWE decided to go in the direction of his final match being against Gunther. That was obvious during the Bad Blood PPV in 2024 when he jumped the barricade to want to fight him. Heck, WWE took that belt off of Jey so that Goldberg could have his retirement match for the title.

Rewatching Goldberg’s appearance on Raw last week, where he confronts Gunther, he is already a mess. The dude’s knees are knackered, and he could barely walk out to the ring and back. A walk is kind of stretching it, as Goldberg was waddling out to the ring like he was a penguin. It reminded many fans of how Greg “The Hammer” Valentine looked during the Heroes of Wrestling PPV in 1999. He was sweating like crazy and was breathing so heavily that fans were nervous he was going to pass out.

Even During Training, Goldberg Got Injured

Not even one week into Goldberg’s return, and this has disasterpiece written all over it. Heck, the guy got hurt himself multiple times while he was training. He said the following quote on his Carcast podcast

“And then there’s another thing. I’m extremely limited because of my left knee. I can’t run. I mean, I can run but, it hurts. So I’m not gonna exacerbate the pain by going out and running… Hell, I’m working around my shoulder that you remember six months ago, I couldn’t do this (lift my arm). I’m pretty frickin’ strong now, I mean, comparatively and it’s funny because ever since we moved here, I haven’t been able to use my arm for five years. I just didn’t use it because it hurt so bad and I’ve had to retrain myself to do the normal, daily things and use my arm, and that’s what’s gotten me back into it. ”

Goldberg is wrestling his final match on an injured knee and shoulder. WWE better not have any bright ideas being cute with this match. Goldberg should not win, and WWE better not go longer than 2-3 minutes. I hope Goldberg doesn’t get hurt more in this match, but at least Goldberg can go out the way he wanted. However, this match is a disaster waiting to happen with how awful Goldberg looked on Monday. Gunther’s got his work cut out for him, and hopefully, he can carry Goldberg through it.
