Arsenal often plays in European soccer, especially the Champions League. The Gunners will play Real Madrid in the 2025 Champions League quarter-finals, which is Arsenal’s most exciting European fixture for some time. Although Arsenal has had relatively little impact in European soccer compared to Real Madrid, the Gunners have still had some great European nights. Many Arsenal fans consider the Fairs Cup final between Arsenal and Anderlecht to be not just one of the club’s best European matches, but one of the best games in general. In the second leg, Arsenal were 3-1 down to Anderlecht, so needed two goals to win the final in the return leg at Highbury. The second leg of this final was undoubtedly one of the great Arsenal games at Highbury.
The team soon got on the score sheet in the first half. Then, they continued to press for the key second goal which duly came in the 75th minute courtesy of Radford. A third goal soon after sealed the game for the Gunners, completing a great comeback and winning Arsenal their first European trophy.
Although this game had the wrong result for Arsenal, it is still their first and only Champions League final to date. Arsenal made their way to the 2006 final after some fine showings in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Juventus in the previous rounds. In the final, they played Barcelona and made a good start in the game until Lehmann got sent off for a foul in the first half. This left Arsenal to play on for the remainder of the game with 10 men.
Despite this, they went a goal in front in the first half, a lead they would keep until the last quarter when Barcelona broke Arsenal’s resistance with an equalizing goal. Then Belleti sealed the game for Barcelona with a second goal to end the match 2-1 to Barcelona. Overall, it was still a good display from Arsenal.
One of Arsenal’s finest Champions League wins came against Inter Milan in the 2003 group stages. Arsenal made a slow start to this Champions League campaign and needed a result against Inter Milan to keep them in the tournament. In the end, they got some results as Arsenal ran rampant in the second half to run out 5-1 winners in this game.
In the first half, the game was relatively even and ended 1-1 overall. A good start in the second saw Arsenal get back in front. Then, in the final 10 minutes, Inter Milan caved in as Henry, Edu, and Pires all got on the scoresheet in one of Arsenal’s biggest Champions League wins.
En route to the Champions League final, Arsenal needed to beat Real Madrid. This they did at the Bernabeu stadium courtesy of a Henry goal in a great Arsenal game. That win gave them a 1-0 advantage for the second leg. The game at Highbury was a thrilling finale that somehow ended 0-0, although this was an ideal result to send Arsenal into the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
The Gunners’ victory against Parma in the 1994 Cup Winners Cup final was the last time they lifted European silverware. Even though Arsenal were without their ace marksman Wright for the final, Smith was a more than adequate replacement. Smith scored the only goal of the game in the first half to make the score 1-0 to the Arsenal. Parma could not break down the resolute and determined Arsenal defense as the Gunners held firm to win the trophy.

They include the Fairs and Champions League finals, Arsenal’s 5-1 demolition of Inter Milan, their historic 1-0 at the Bernabeu, and the Cup Winners Cup triumph. If Arsenal can beat Real Madrid in the 2025 quarter-finals, that will certainly be another great European victory for the Gunners, especially if they get through.
