It is a known fact that FC Porto have been envied for their A-class goalkeeper Diogo Costa. It seems, however, that they won’t get to keep him any longer.
For a long time, FC Porto’s Costa has been tied to several clubs, especially with his great performance. So far, the goalkeeper remains at his club, but it is reported that he wants a new challenge.
According to A Bola, Costa is ready for the next step in his career. It’s time to leave FC Porto. It won’t be difficult for him to find a new club because he is definitely attracting the attention of several others.
The publication reports that both Manchester City and Manchester United have their eyes set on Costa. The goalkeeper has a €75m ($80.5 million) release clause in his contract.
Interested clubs, however, might manage to make a deal for €60m ($64.4 million). This number is definitely better than paying the entire release clause.
It’s reasonable that both Man City and Man United want Costa to join their side. On one hand, City needs a replacement for Ederson who has been tied to a Saudi Arabia move for some time now. The club is probably preparing to lose him at any moment now.
On the other hand, United definitely need a goalkeeper of Costa’s caliber to replace Andre Onana. Ruben Amorim, and the club’s fans, aren’t impressed by what their goalkeeper has been offering. Costa can solve a lot of their problems.
It seems like a move for Costa is inevitable. Unfortunately for FC Porto, their best goalkeeper is close to changing clubs. This move would be a big loss for the Portuguese side.
Costa has been essential for FC Porto and Portugal as well so it is understandable that major clubs would want him. Of course, FC Porto is a great club, but no one can deny that Manchester United and Manchester City are considered the better side.
Whether Costa chooses Manchester United or City is yet to be seen. No matter what club he will join, he will be a great addition to them. Costa can change the dynamics of any team he plays for and make them better.
While the interest comes from two big names, Manchester City might be the better option. United have been haunted by theories that talents fail as soon as they join them.
They have also been suffering for some time now, and while they need a goalkeeper, the entire team isn’t that good yet.
With Manchester City, he will have an opportunity to join a team that will most likely return to its former glory soon. They have been making several transfer deals to ensure that next season would be different. City feels like the right club for Costa.
FC Porto losing Costa is going to be quite the blow. They, however, might not struggle with finding a replacement. The club is the kind of one that can identify talents and use them to their advantage.
