First Period – Canadiens Vs. Hurricanes Game 4 Recap

Carolina controlled the opening minutes of the game. They registered the first six shots and forced Montreal goaltender Jakub Dobesh to make a beautiful pad save on a breakaway. The pressure got to them at the 14:04 point, with forward Kirby Dach called for cross-checking. The penalty was killed, and with 9:45 remaining in the frame, the Canadiens finally got something positive.

Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield was called for interference, giving Montreal the man-advantage. The Canadiens didn’t score on that one, so forward Taylor Hall gave them another when he was called for cross-checking 12:48 into the period. Not only did they not register a shot on the power play, with 30 seconds remaining on it, forward Zachary Bolduc was hit with a hooking call.

Mere seconds into Carolina’s man advantage, forward Sebastian Aho put his team up one, with assists credited to forward Nikolaj Ehlers and defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere. The Hurricanes didn’t stop there, getting a quick goal from forward Jordan Staal and another from forward Logan Stankoven. Further assists were credited to Ehlers, forward Jackson Blake, and Gostisbehere. Montreal’s chances felt nil, going into the first intermission, down 3-0.

Second Period – Canadiens Vs. Hurricanes Game 4 Recap

The Canadiens didn’t look much better in the second frame. Not much to show until the 7:36 mark, when Montreal defenseman Mike Matheson was called for cross-checking in front of his net. Just 16 seconds into the kill, forward Phillip Danault was also called for cross-checking, giving Carolina a two-man advantage. The Canadiens killed both penalties, only to get called for another near the end of the period. Coach Martin St. Louis’ face told the story.

Third Period – Canadiens Vs. Hurricanes Game 4 Recap

Montreal continued to be schooled in the third period. Dobes made further exciting breakaway saves, but his team couldn’t help him out. When the Canadiens went on the penalty kill at 5:25, it felt like time was up for the home team. The Hurricanes put it away with a goal from forward Andrei Svechnikov, when he scored on an empty net, with 1:54 to go.
