Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards, Chicago’s Coby White Named NBA Players Of The Week

The NBA announced Tuesday that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and Chicago Bulls guard Coby White were named Players of the Week for games played between March 10 and March 16.

For Edwards, the honor marks the second time in his career he’s been named Western Conference Player of the Week, and the fifth time a member of the Timberwolves has earned the accolade multiple times. Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett leads all Timberwolves with 15 Player of the Week honors.

Edwards led Minnesota to a perfect 3-0 record last week, averaging 32.7 points per game in wins over the Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic, and Utah Jazz. The three-time All-Star ended the week as the NBA leader in three-pointers made with 270, and second in total points with 1,811. The 6-foot, 4-inch guard capped off his week with a game-high 41-point effort in his team’s win over the Jazz, marking the seventh time this season he’s scored more than 40 points in a game — a Timberwolves franchise record.

“I wanted to go for like 60,” Edwards told reporters after his team’s win over Utah. “I thought I was on pace after the first quarter, but you know when you sit a little bit you get kind of cold. I missed like four or five threes I usually make in the second and that’s still on my mind. I’m definitely mad about that.”

Sub Zero In NBA’s East

White, meanwhile, became the 12^th player in Chicago Bulls history to be named Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Surprise, Surprise, Michael Jordan is the Bulls individual-record holder with 23 Player of the Week nods.

White led Chicago to a 2-1 week while extending his career-long streak of scoring more than 20 points per game to eight straight contests. The six-year NBA veteran was the only guard in the East to average at least 25 points and seven rebounds per game over the week. And on March 10, White become the sixth player in Bulls history to reach 6,000-career points before turning 26.

“I’m just reading what the defense is giving me, trying to be aggressive, trying to get downhill, taking the open shots and trying to make the right plays,” White said when asked what’s been working for him during his offensive hot streak.

The six-time All-Star and 2024-25 NBA champion helped lead the Celtics to a 2-1 record after having sat out his team’s win over Utah to start the week. Tatum averaged 27 points per game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami Heat, and Brooklyn Nets, and was Boston’s team leader in assists in two of those three games.

What’s Next For This Week’s Winners?

Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves (33-36) will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to face a New Orleans Pelicans (18-50) team with losses in six of its last seven games. White and the Chicago Bulls (28-39) will also take to the hardwood Wednesday in Arizona against a Phoenix Suns (31-27) squad with losses in three of its last four contests.
