The Philadelphia Eagles had a horrible first day of NFL free agency. They lost key players on defense and were unable to add any outside free agents. Things changed on day two, as Howie Roseman got to work improving the Super Bowl hopeful Eagles.
Day 1 Woes

The Eagles did not have a good opening day to free agency. They lost Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers on an absurd four-year, $120 million contract. He was the one free agent for whom reports indicated optimism between the team and player regarding reaching a deal.
Reed Blankenship and Nakobe Dean were two other starters on defense who departed Philadelphia. Blankenship agreed to a three-year, $24.5 million deal with the Houston Texans, and Dean reached a three-year, $36 million agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders. Dean’s replacement is likely to come internally with Jihaad Campbell, but Roseman will need to address the safety position in free agency or the draft.
Signing Riq Woolen

Riq Woolen was one of the top targets for Philadelphia heading into the free agency period. The 26-year-old has had his ups and downs, but his peak is a Pro Bowl-caliber player. Pairing him alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean creates one of the more impressive CB groups in the NFL.
Woolen was signed to a one-year $15 million contract, essentially a prove-it deal in Philly. If he is able to capitalize on this opportunity under Vic Fangio, he could be heading for a major payday in 2027. An underrated aspect of this deal is the potential implications it has for the Eagles’ compensatory draft picks. He could net them another pick in the third or fourth round if he has a successful season.
Signing Johnny Mundt

Johnny Mundt is not the flashy name that will make headlines, but he addresses a massive need for the Eagles. A blocking TE2 has been something they have been lacking for years after Jack Stoll left the team. Grant Calcaterra is a fine receiving threat, but he is not a very good blocker.
Signing Mundt is a great addition to the tight end room, but he is not a starting-caliber player. Roseman will still need to address TE1, whether that is bringing back Dallas Goedert or bringing in a new face to fill that spot.
Re-Signed Grant Calcaterra

Calcaterra has been a mainstay in the Philadelphia TE room since he was drafted. He is a good receiving option to keep around. Adding him back to a group that now includes Mundt will give the Eagles a more versatile TE room. Still, the TE1 position will need to be addressed.
End Of My Eagles Rant
The Eagles needed to make moves, and Roseman did just that. They may not be big-time splashes, but they are the moves that matter. Building a championship-level team comes from not having weaknesses, so addressing the few on the roster was a key to the offseason.
