Week Four of NFL Monday Night Football featured a game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. In a battle of 0-3 teams, the Dolphins won 27-21 to tally their first win. What could have been the story of a struggling team finding a way to rebound has turned into a concerning tale of injury in sports.
The Dolphins’ top wide receiver, Tyreek Hill, needed the cart to get off the field after an apparent leg injury. Adam Schefter reported later on X that they were heading to the hospital to confirm their diagnosis of a dislocated knee. The clip of the incident quickly spread across social media. ESPN shares video of the team’s WR1 being carted off the field and waving to fans. Hill somehow found a way to smile after the disturbing injury, even seeming to comfort the healthcare professional sitting with him. The online opinion is split. Some fans choose the inhumane route of pointing out his criminal history, saying he deserves it, while others send well wishes to an athlete who just busted up his leg for entertainment.
There’s no way for any team to recover from the loss of someone of the caliber of Hill. Jaylen Waddle is now the top receiver, and teams will have a much easier time creating a game plan. He benefits from playing with such elite talent, and now will have to face 100% of the heat. The 0-3 start was crushing, but losing their superstar feels like the nail in the 2025-26 coffin.
Hill is WR1 for most owners, so fantasy managers are feeling the loss, as well. While the stories around him are undeniably concerning, it doesn’t mean he deserved it, and it doesn’t change the massive void left from his departure. For those affected in fantasy, and for Dolphins fans, there’s always next year.
