The Los Angeles Dodgers are striving to pull off a task not seen since the 2015 Kansas City Royals. The Royals had as many as eight players hold starting spots at once before the 2015 All-Star began with five Royals securing starting spots. As the second phase of All-Star voting begins for the 2025 All-Star Game, the Dodgers currently have seven players in the hunt for a starting spot for the National League. Shohei Ohtani being the first starter of a possible eight selected as he was the top-voted player for the first phase of voting.

Dodgers Headliners

A month ago, no one thought the Dodgers could be in the position to have eight starting players in this year’s All-Star Game. It was possible that the Dodgers could get around four or five players on the roster but not fill out the majority of the starting lineup. The current record for the most players selected as starters in an All-Star Game is five, the 2023 Texas Rangers being the most recent team to match the record.

The Dodgers currently have five players in the top spots for every position except the outfield. Those players are Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Max Muncy, Will Smith, and Tommy Edman. Andy Pages and Teoscar Hernandez are sixth place and fourth place in their category. If there were to be any team to break the record for most starters by one team, the 2025 Dodgers are a heavy favorite to smash the previous total. The defending champions have one of the biggest fan bases in the league, and showcase popular players loved by fans globally.

End Of My Dodgers Rant

Even if the Dodgers don’t end up with a record-breaking six or more starters in this year’s All-Star Game, the fact that they were even in consideration is welcoming. The franchise has been in the midst of a long season dealing with the pressure of winning back-to-back titles and injuries on the roster. When the All-Star Game occurs this year, the Dodgers not surpassing the record won’t be considered a failure. The franchise has more important goals on mind.

The 2025 All-Star Game is being held in Atlanta on July 15.
