With the New York Mets losing against the Washington Nationals and the Cincinnati Reds beating the Chicago Cubs, New York is virtually out of a playoff spot. Since they just played their last home game of the season, and with the possibility that their season is almost over, this may have been Pete Alonso’s last home game as a Met.

The Mets Need To Re-sign Alonso In The Offseason

Assuming Alonso opts out of his two-year deal with the Mets, they will need to offer a solid contract to keep him here for life. This season, Alonso has been solid. So far, he has hit .272, with 37 bombs and 122 RBIs, while also playing some decent defense along the way. The Mets would be insane to let that type of production walk away. They are going to need to give him an enticing offer, assuming he opts out.

If This Is The End For Alonso As a Met, He Had A Solid Run

In the seven seasons that Alonso’s been a Met, he has broken some pretty impressive records. He broke Darryl Strawberry’s home run record not that long ago, and he has the Mets single-season record for home runs and RBIs as well. He has also been an all-star five times and has helped get the Mets to the playoffs in two of the seasons he was with them. It’s safe to say he did all he could in his tenure with this team.

The Mets Can’t Afford To Let This Type Of Production Leave The Team

If Alonso ends up going somewhere else, this will be a big blow to that Mets lineup. To have a guy like that who can give you 30 or more home runs, 100 or more RBIs, and hit 250 or above per year leave will suck for this franchise and their fans. Sadly, only time will tell whether or not Alonso stays or goes. The Mets’ offense will most likely get worse losing a bat like his. It remains to be seen who they could get to replace him if this happens.

End Of My Pete Alonso Rant

It will be a sad day for the Mets and their fans if Alonso walks away in free agency. It is even sadder if the Mets’ loss against the Nationals at Citi Field on Sunday was the last time they see him at home. Whatever happens, it will be up to Pete Alonso to make the decision if this season will be his last as a Met or not. No matter what, he still had a great tenure as a Met, and it will be interesting to see what happens come the offseason.
