The Detroit Lions and their high-powered offense, led by quarterback Jared Goff, now comfortably sit as the top pick for Super Bowl LIX. ESPN has Dan Campbell’s NFC leading, 15-2 Lions atop the list of contenders. At +275, Detroit offers betting fans a lens into the confidence level their team has burnished over the past four seasons—a resurgence of the highest order that now rightfully has the Lions at the top of mostly everyone’s projections.
Does this seem bold at this time? Hardly; the Detroit Lions have been battle-tested all season, and for the most part, have passed remarkably. The latest of which was their regular season finish and lopsided victory over the Vikings to solidify their right to the number one seed and home-field advantage through the playoffs.
An Incredible Season

Who Stands In Their Way? Jayden Daniels
It would seem that Jayden Daniel’s numerous heroics over the course of the regular season would force a tighter spread for this week’s matchup. Add to that the Commanders’ dramatic win on the road against Tampa Bay, and one can’t help but air caution on the side of betting on the Lions this weekend.

Perhaps a 9.5-point spread is giving this Lions team too much respect against Washington’s team that appears destined for greatness. If not now, then very soon!
Daniels continues to dazzle and impress as his rookie season enters its final weeks. The 2024 second-overall pick is the third-rated quarterback in the NFL, with an 80.3 rating. This sits behind MVP candidates Lamar Jackson of Baltimore and Josh Allen of Buffalo.
Add to this Daniels’s 890 yards rushing and 3,500 yards passing, and you have a weapon similar to the mold of the Ravens and Bills superstars. A possible Superbowl matchup at some point in the future between Jayden Daniels and either Jackson or Allen would be an electric event. Is it premature to wish for this now? The Detroit Lions would absolutely say that it is.
Stafford Vs. Goff Shootout?
As it stands, Philadelphia is the favorite to face Detroit in the NFC final. If the Lions can take down the amped-up Commanders at Ford Field on Saturday, it will make for an intriguing finish in the NFC. The Rams are sitting at +700 to take the NFC Championship and are six-point underdogs to the Eagles in this week’s divisional round.

Jared Goff vs Matthew Stafford.
Let’s do it again with the same result😈#OnePride #RamsHouse pic.twitter.com/lcZAjQ8T8R
It will be a tall order for Stafford and the Rams to outplay a proven Philly defense in what are looking to be frigid playing conditions this Sunday. To oddsmakers, a return to Detroit for Stafford to face the Lions, where he remains the greatest quarterback in the organization’s history, seems unlikely.
That is, however, the storybook ending and ultimate victory that Detroit fans would most definitely want to see for the NFC. Goff might someday overtake Stafford as the Detroit Lion’s greatest-ever quarterback. For now, both the Rams and Lions have to be very well satisfied with the return on their trade and investment with their respective QBs
End Of Rant
It might have been the convincing win over Minnesota in Week 18 that won over any prognosticators in predicting who would rise and represent the NFC at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs are the favorites coming out of the AFC. They are the second favorite to three-peat and win it all, behind the Lions, with a +325 odds placement as we head into this weekend’s divisional round. The Lions are being shown the ultimate respect as of this moment. Buffalo Bills fans (Bills Mafia) might have something to say about that!
