On March 20, led by head coach Dawn Staley, No. 1 South Carolina held on to beat No. 2 Duke 54-50 in the Elite Eight. In a nail-biter win to return to its fifth straight Final Four appearance, the defending national champions are making a run at another NCAA title. All the Gamecocks need are two more clutch wins like Sunday night against the Blue Devils as they head to Tampa Bay, Florida.

Legendary Dawn Staley: The Standard

Staley isn’t just coaching a kid’s game anymore — she is creating a legacy that will inspire generations of women’s basketball players. As women’s sports continue to grow, having passionate and influential advocates like Staley has never been more important.

Before becoming one of the sport’s most respected coaches, Staley played in the WNBA for 20 seasons and was selected as a six-time All-Star from 2001 to 2006 before becoming one of the NCAA’s most respected coaches. Staley also represented the United States women’s national basketball team, winning three Olympic gold medals between 1996 and 2004. She later returned to lead Team USA as head coach, capturing another Olympic gold in 2021.

Staley is the only person in history to win the Naismith Award as both a player and a coach, a testament to her excellence and dedication to her sport.

“Dawn’s Daycare”

This year’s South Carolina roster has been nicknamed Dawn’s Daycare and is often seen posing for silly pictures and dancing in TikTok videos. Despite what critics say, this just proves the Gamecocks’ trust, loyalty, and adoration for their head coach and beloved mentor.

This year’s Gamecocks roster is loaded with star power, featuring standout players such as:

  • Senior guard Te-Hina Paopao, #0
  • Sophomore guard MiLaysia Fulwiley, #12
  • Junior forward Chloe Kitts, #21
  • Senior guard Bree Hall, #23

The Gamecocks’Road Ahead

Only two wins separate Staley’s Gamecocks from another national championship — one that would add to their titles already claimed in 2017, 2022, and 2024. South Carolina heads to Tampa Bay for the Final Four, where the competition is going fierce.

The reigning champions are once again within reach of yet another trophy. The Gamecocks now rely on the same mix of talent, toughness, and grit that has defined them all season — and every season under the iconic Staley.

End Of My Dawn Staley Rant

With just two wins standing between them and another national championship, Staley and the South Carolina Gamecocks now set their sights on the Final Four in Tampa Bay. The defending champions are hungry and ready to keep dancing. Can Staley take her place even deeper in the history books and lead her close-knit team to the second straight title they deserve?
