As we enter the new year, we will focus on the red side of Manchester and its outstanding glaring issues. Another young and upcoming coach was brought in to try and fix things quite literally on the fly. However, what is the problem at Manchester United? After 19 games in the season Manchester United sits in 14th place only 7 points above the relegation zone an unheard-of situation for a club the size of Manchester United. Clearly, the new coach Ruben Amorim will need some time to get his ideas across and to show his influence on the new system that the Reds are attempting to play.
As he stated in his postgame press conference after Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to a very impressive Newcastle it has to be said, “If you start changing because of the results, it’s the end for any coach… I was hired because of my ideas.” In a situation like this, the team has to maximize the talent that they have, then we can ask if these players are suitable to play under this system. Some bright spots also have been noted such as Amad Diallo, who is finally getting a chance under the new boss, as well as the signing of Mazraoui and Ugarte who are pillars of the United team in this 3-4-2-1 system.
Where will the goals come from is another pensive question that fans will be asking. Joshua Zirkzee looks deprived of confidence, Rasmus Hojlund, a young energetic muscular center forward is also still trying to get his feet under him the point of the Manchester United attack. Who can be the point of difference however. Certainly we see that playing in the Seria A to the Premier League is a completely different, the intensity levels and the demand for goals especially in this Manchester United team is very evident.
There are also many sub-stories that the coach also has to have a handle on, for example, Marcus Rashford a very talked-about footballer that is looking like he’s one foot out of the club, a club in which he matured from a young boy to the man who had a couple of very good seasons at the club. Is it time to move on? In general, there are many questions to be asked, however the only solution is time.
I remind you that even back in the great Sir Alex Ferguson’s first season at the club they didn’t get off to a good starts and there were even questions regarding his dismissal, the rest as he know is history as he went one to become one of the best coaches in the world and a legends at the club. Time might be the best medicine for this club, however at the same time you have to get results. A monumental task for Ruben Amorim and his staff, can Manchester United turn things around in 2025?
